Hi Chris- forgot about this thread and just saw you responded to me last week. Didn't know that program sold for that much. I would have to give it some thought. But thanks for getting back.

I was just re-reading this thread and have a thought about asking a value and selling on the main forum(s). I don't think it's a bad thing to ask a value of an uncommon item on the main board, even if you are planning on selling the item. How are we supposed to know what to price it at when we go to sell it or what a fair value is? That being said there really is a fine line here.
Sometimes I, myself, need to ask the value of something I am going to sell. I usually will try to do it in a way that is not "in your face" selling on the front page. I think if we are cognizant of what we are doing then we can state our needs and be fine and dandy. Just don't go overboard on selling on the main forums and all will be ok. If it gets out of hand you will probably get your question moved to the BST area or a polite private, or public, comment. I get quite a few PM's asking about these types of issues and am always glad to try to help. We (us collectors) are here to help each other and at the same time us (moderators) try to keep some sort of organization for the board. It's really been very tame lately and that is appreciated. Happy collecting....

No, I don't think your response was out of line at all. I think it's quite ok that, while discussing stuff, we can ask if it's for sale and so forth. I do it too. We are collectors (and friendly flippers) and family here. What I really frown upon is blatant selling on the front page with no other questions being asked. This whole thread, from the original poster, to the last post, was ok imho.....I am easy!! Now, if someone came on the front page and said FOR SALE- 1910 Program in great condition etc........... That would get moved to the BST section. As I said I think it's a fine line and I don't see it crossed too often. For the most part our members are pretty darned good about this stuff. Some new members get a little fouled up but they mean no harm either. take care (btw, just put the check in the mail today, instead of yesterday...sorry for the day delay)

Fair enough. But I was the one who told Chris I was interested in the Brooklyn Bridge program, and I could have emailed him first. No big deal, as you say.

It's not clear to me when solicitations became off limits on the Memorabilia side. We've always been a lot less concerned on this side about that, and there still isn't the traffic that there is on the card side to have such posts cluttering te forum. Maybe I missed something. We've had a separate B/S/T thread in the memorabilia forum for as long as I can remember; here's a link to January's I actually find the posts "I just got this and would like to know its value" far more deserving of your frown, as in the vast majority of such cases, the poster is actively soliciting offers without going to the B/S/T Max Last edited by baseballart; 01-16-2010 at 01:55 PM. |
