You think the town of Blue Rapids and the surrounding communities got any work done on that Friday? I wonder if they canceled school too?

Dan, all accounts in the papers say they shut everything down including the banks and schools. Everybody in town was mobilized in some way either promoting, baking selling tickets or whatever was needed to get the game and make sure it ran smoothly. This was not only a game but an investment for the town. They had to supply so much money to get the teams to Blue Rapids. I can't recall now but I think the boosters made around $2000 after paying off the teams. I'll try to post some of the newspaper articles.

After going back through the accounts I believe it was closer to $900 they made. Here's a couple of articles that the town paper printed. Papers were so big back then that it's impossible to scan the whole page at once.

Great reading Clint...thanks for posting. And I don't know what the writer saw, but all those autos look to be behind the fences to me.

As we're starting to show here on this thread, using your imagination a little can pay off big for your collection! Be creative in finding ways to tie certain pieces together. There's nothing better Gents then when it all starts to come together. I just love it. Keep it up guys, well done everyone. Best, Jimmy Last edited by thekingofclout; 01-31-2010 at 06:30 AM. |

These two are both from Babe's barnstorming stop in Dunsmuir, CA. 1924. They both come from Christy Walsh's scrapbooks and the details on the backs are all in his hand. The content that Walsh wrote regarding the image of him batting is awesome.
