| April pickups

From Lew Lipset's auction: "An earlier wooden Exhibit Machine from the 1920’s. The rare machine is made of wood and is a double column table top. Displayed is a card from the “Draw Your Lucky Photo” pinup exhibit set (W423-4A). In excellent condition with full back." My other hobby is woodworking, and this machine, despite its advertised status as in "excellent condition,' can be made even better. I'll replace the present promo card with a few twenties Exhibits, refinish the whole thing, and repair the coin plungers to working order. |

Matt, That's cool! I've wanted to add this card to my collection for a while now. Glad I was able to find it at the right price. You'll be happy to know it's in good hands with no plans on going anywhere for a long time! ErikV |

well, considering my post went over like a lead fart, i might as well say now, that it was a poor attempt at an april fool's joke. i guess we'll never be able to replicate the hysterics that Wonka's fake T206 Jackson provided 2 years ago... MVS 4/1/10 |

there are only a few of those stubs known to exist. from the first world series 1903. worth probably $25-30K+ (this was an image from an old auction). i like the fact that i've built up my street cred over the years to such a level that nobody flinches when i "supposedly" drop $60K+ in one month on 3 pieces Last edited by MVSNYC; 04-01-2010 at 11:24 AM. |

Those three cards did strike me as rather pricey...I was trying to calculate in my head how many shares of Apple you would have needed to buy and sell to afford them. Edited because I thought you said there were only three 1903 World Series stubs known...you just said there was only a few. That's fair. Last edited by barrysloate; 04-01-2010 at 11:26 AM. |

Tony- I think it was April 1 , 2007. John posted that he was contacted by a family wishing to sell some T206's, and he put scans of them on the board. All were real, except for one that he photoshopped. It was a proof with no name on it, but it was a player in a Cleveland uniform that looked an awful lot like Joe Jackson. It garnered more than a little attention. But of course it was an April Fool's Day joke.

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...=jackson+proof Funny day while many board members played it's an obvious April fools day joke, some of the very same were emailing April every few hours...which was me.. Also funny were the auction houses and sellers that emailed April...I really found out that day who was stand up and who was..well not so stand up. Very funny day..thanks to Leon & Barry...who were there to help. Last edited by wonkaticket; 04-02-2010 at 10:52 AM. |
