Here is a 1/2. Why is this worth only 2 percent of the 1/1????

Don't these people know they're supposed to wait 'til the last day to bid? They're shilling themselves!

Peter, there are only 2 mint 9's but there's probably 20 gem mint 10's. You'd have to mishandle these cards to get anything less then mint 9. If there is only 2, it just means people aren't grading them.

I don't know whether the bids are real or not, but if some wants to spend that much then let them. What about the vintage cards that go 100k +, others would look at them and say their stupid just because it's modern shouldn't discourage the person from his hobby.

A factor that may not have been discussed yet is that the buyer may be doing this for publicity. Maybe this person wants to be known as the owner of the most expensive modern card?

"The modern day Honus Wagner card!"

This seems like a memorable enough moment in the hobby. It may be setting it self up for future hobby lore. If he lives up to his expectations... You never know.

In the begining of this thread I was shocked that the card was at $18,000.00,,,,,,,,but IMO this is ridiculous. I'm not saying it's stupid to pay alot for something you really want, I seem to do it quite often- but I also try to factor in the item holding some type of value over time----will this card really hold even 25% (and that's being generous IMO) of $100,000.00 ?????

I agree with the comments of it being their $$ and let 'em buy what makes them happy--sure--but where does common sense play a part?

No doubt Strasburg is proving to be an awesome pitcher, but this early in his career would paying this much for any one of his cards be a wise move?

Default This one is 1/250, not 1/2

Looking at the card, it is 1 of 250... only two have been graded by PSA

I wonder when he'll end up in a Yankees uniform. I wonder what the guy who sold it the first time is thinking.

Anybody remember this stat line from a 20 year-old phenom in 1985?

24W 4L 1.53ERA 35GS 16CG 8 Shutouts 276.2IP 268Strikeouts 0.965 Whip

Let's not forget he also came in 2nd place in Cy Young voting the year before as a 19 year-old Rookie. Imagine what his card would be worth if he came up today.

Oh, not to mention he also played in the biggest market in the country.

Yeah I made the Gooden point in another thread, it really goes to show how a few games or even a few years doth not a career make.

Sort of related to this topic and the Blue autographed card. Its PSA 9, one of two. Let me ask this, Why does that make it ANY better than someone who may have one of these who didn't send it to grade?

In general, lets say you have 500 Ty cobb T 206 cards. and 100 have been graded. Someone says "one of only two graded seven" none higher. Does that make the 400 "Raw ones" not worth money (assuming they are all original/unaltered).

I guess Im saying that a card being "1 of xxx" graded at that level, shouldnt mean it is the those are the only ones in that physical grade around, as some may not want to grade cards and be holding Raw ones in at least that shape. Puts a super high premium on grading, I guess..

Looks like the superfractor 1/1 first time buyer for $16,400 got himself a nice little profit:

Do you all think the seller will really get paid at this point? This just seems strange to me.

this card is currently at $22k, and in the questions section the seller said it was graded a 9.5 by BGS. I find it hard to believe that the centering (one of the four subgrades) could've gotten anything higher than a 7. I think to get a 9.5 the lowest any one grade could be is 8.5, correct? Just looks OC to the right, unless thats how its spoze to look?

But hey, I guess $22k is peanuts compared to the other 1/1 thats going for over a quarter mil
