The top edge does look trimmed. Great card nonetheless!

Some cards really get hammered in terms of value when it is in an AUT holder, but I don't think this is a card that will be horribly damaged from a value standpoint.

thanks for the comments so far guys. I was hoping it was not trimmed but im not going to complain. Im happy with it. I just wanted to make sure it was authentic. With all the skeptics out there i needed to get it slabbed. It will look great in the SGC holder and will post pics ASAP when i get it. Then I need to decide if its off to the auction block or back in the safe.

Always fascinated when an SGC A N172 with strong contrast and a clear image sells for significantly less than a graded N172 whose image has faded to the point that you have to concentrate to even find the player in the photo.

I too would leave it slabbed and concur with the others. Almost always, corners on cards should have similar wear. If 2 are rounded and 2 are sharp, most times it's a trim job. Nonetheless this is a great looking card with a nice photo contrast. I would rate it somewhere in the mid-grade category on eye appeal...maybe even a little better. I would definitely rather have it than one with a number and a ghost of an image
.

Uneven wear isn't always conclusive, what if it was stuck in a book like a bookmark with the bottom exposed to wear, and the rest protected? You just never know what could have happened to a nearly 130 year old baseball card like this.
awesome card either way, I would have had it slabbed too in an SGC holder just for presentation. Grading should be irrelevant to valuation of old judges... |

It is a super card either way. It appears to have a funky cut. I would take the authentic.
