My best card? Hummm? That's kinda like asking me to pick a favorite
child, Damn it! Well, I suppose if I had to pick just one, this would be it.

I won the card in Dec 2009 Huggins+Scott auction. If I remember correctly it got that designation because they weren't exactly sure what to call it. It is the correct size, not trimmed.

Easy decision for me. I'd add a story, but it's pretty self explanatory isn't it??

This is my rarest card (not the most attractive), and the story of its acquisition.

My wife tolerates my baseball card affliction admirably. She knows the cards are worth something, and she knows I spend money on them, but she prefers not to know the details. Fine with me - I keep a separate baseball card fund off the household books, and handle purchases discreetly.

Unfortunately, the ebay auction that brought me this treasure was scheduled to end in the middle of a dinner party we were hosting. There was no choice, I had to tell her about it! And I knew I would have to bid about 25 times what she thought it was worth. Sticky situation.

I excused myself from the table with five minutes left in the auction, and prepared to snipe. Praying that no one would join me in the computer room, I typed in my bid. As I nervously counted down the seconds, guests were shouting from the dining room "Is it over? Did you get it?" Finally, I pushed send.

Needless to say, I was overjoyed with the result. But for the rest of the evening, I had my hands full, ducking the question of what I paid.

Very funny Rob D. but this was cleared-up in a prior thread. The "P" really stands for Peons. David is the star pitcher (ala Don Mossi) on the old Net54 softball team. I believe we play the guys from Full Count next weekend, should be a good game (Leon is sharpening his spikes as we speak)...

Lovely Day...

I remember (and I am sure others do too) when we actually got to start wearing steel cleats in Pony League. Those things sounded cool as we walked on the cement. Oh the memories.....

Default Bruce C...

I love your story about completing the 1979 set with the help of your grandparents! Aren't grandparents the best!

As far as vintage "Bests" go, that is a tough call for me, as I don't have anything truly special or unique. I think it would be a toss up between the T200 Cleveland and the T206 with the F. Scott Fitzgerald stamp on the back...

Default my first T206

picked this up as a kid many years ago, birthday gift from my parents. my first (and still only) large single-item purchase, and my first T206. would be tough to part with...

p.s. sorry for resurrecting an "old" thread, but didn't have access to a working scanner for a little while.
