Just an FYI, because it likely will be asked:

2011: Donald E Stephens Convention Center; Rosemont, Ill.

2012: International Exposition (I-X) Center; Cleveland, OH

2013: Donald E Stephens Convention Center; Rosemont, Ill.

2014: TBD

2015: Donald E Stephens Convention Center; Rosemont, Ill.

Isn't this where somebody starts complaining because it's never in Nashville, Tulsa, or Portland?

Default My First National Since Parsippany

It's true. I was ready with my list of t206's needed and a keen eye for interesting vintage and was not dissappointed. But since I've been away from the hobby for a while I have a question maybe you can help me with...

what are those ridiculous plastic things surrounding almost every vintage card I saw? They were really weird. Did anyone else notice them?

No but seriously, I do want to say one thing - what are those ridiculous plastic -

A great show. Nice mix of old and older. I hope every vintage collector enjoyed Glenn from New Jersey's table - OMG - beautiful cards, never before seen RPPC of Honus Wagner and amazing memorabilia too. My favorite booth.

Second favorite - The Sporting News archives - thanks to someone who posted (I'm paraphrasing) "don't be afraid to offer lower prices". I did and got a few beauties. I could have spent another 3-4 hours there. Did anyone buy the Goose Goslin photo from about 1965 looking forlorn? I took the one of him grinning widely instead.

and lastly - no one told me about Richard Mason's book on old judge cards (I'm a lurker so I'm saying it in jest) I now know what I need to read before jumping into Old Judge HOFers.

Good stuff. Hope you got to see Boog too.

Some do. My question is: There were Monkeys, Beatles, and Elvis sets, so why no Grateful Dead sets? I would take a '72 Jerry over a '67 Bobby any day.

The stamp inserts would of been a big hit. Topps missed the boat on that one.

How about a Double National to accommodate the cities with smaller venues. All the dealers who refuse to put price tags on their merchandise can attend the Mystery National at a venue which doesn't tell them how much their booths, hotel rooms or meals cost. They can just receive the bill when they leave.

That should leave plenty of room for everyone else at a sub-300,000 sq ft venue such as the one in Portland. Great city during the Summer, I might add.

I guess I'm spoiled living in Chicago with the National here just about every other year and the three yearly Sun-Times shows. Naturally, I like the current schedule. As a fourth-generation Chicagoan with extensive knowledge of the city and suburbs, I beg to differ with those who say Chicago does not have entertainment options. True, the Rosemont area is limited but it does have an "L" stop that for $2.50 can get you rather quickly to museums, restaurants, shopping, nightlife and other points of interest. I'm going to set up at the show next year and I'd be happy to recommend day alternatives to the show for your families and even lead a pub crawl or two. I'm the author of "A Barfly's Guide to Chicago's Drinking Establishments" guide book. Chicago has 4,000 taverns and the city is at least three times larger than Baltimore. There is an immense amount of entertainment options here.

Tony,

You are my kind of dude . I plan to attend the National in 2011, so I'll definitely be in touch!

Cheers,
Blair

For the west coast, what about San Diego?

The convention center has over 525,000 gross square feet of contiguous exhibit space on the ground floor alone.

Sure, you'd have to work around ComicCon in July, but that shouldn't be a problem.

It's also on the bay, with Seaport Village and Petco Park (amont many other things) within walking distance.

And you won't have to worry about the weather!

Your choice of reasons:

1 - Too little space (only 255,000 sq. ft.)?

http://www.oregoncc.org/pdf/occ_facilityspecs.pdf

2 - Too many Buddhists?

3 - Because it rains every day?

1. Too bad.
2. Point taken.
3. Summer is beautiful here and not humid. It rains in the Winter and Spring.

Default The dealers at the show

[QUOTE=Rob D.;828129]Just an FYI, because it likely will be asked:

Were presented a choice between Baltimore and Atlantic City.
My advice to them --- please make the right choice and return to Baltimore
