I had a gut feeling it's good. Also, I put 2 and 2 together on it. The seller was from NY as well as the card (good sign). I did research on the radio station and it checked out (good sign). The back is blank, so if this was a cut off of a pamphlet (my initial thought) it would most likely have writing/text on the back of it (good sign). The borders look very evenly cut and it has the "look" of a premium type card (good sign). The tape does look old and aged (good sign). The seller has over 1500 perfect feedback. (good sign) ALL of those things together gave me a good feeling, though I am still not 100% on it. If anyone has seen another like it I would be interested in hearing about it as I would love to know more. Just because it could be uniquely known doesn't scare me. I am of those that believe there is still a ton of stuff to be discovered in our hobby. It shipped to me yesterday so we shall see. regards

A plate from a book would be blank backed. I would check the left edge closely to see if it is uniform or a tad ragged. I've never seen it before so can't say if it is good or bad...but I also think the old tape is at least a good sign.

Good point...though I don't remember seeing too many 3 x 5 book plates, it could be one. I knew it was a risk, but a calculated one.

My opinion was it was good and that is why I bid up to $175 or so and cost Leon a bit of coin! Neat item, I would have liked to have won it as I've never seen another. I figured I'd either win it fairly cheaply or Leon would see it and I'd get outbid!
Good Buy!-Rhett

In hand I still feel it was a good buy....It's not too often I can add something this cheaply to my type set....Sort of wish someone had seen one before, but that is ok. regards

I think it's real and a terrific piece -- it looks even better in your photo.
Could I please ask you a quick question. One of the most well known models made by Joseph Kren's bat company in Syracuse was the Dick Porter model. Can you make out any of the wording on the center label and/or barrel of the bat? Is that a Dick Porter signature model? Thanks and congrats Leon! Greg http://www.baseballbasement.com |
