Years back when VCBC stopped coming I was pissed as hell!
I had just renewed my subscription and was out about $50. The weird thing is that to this day, I never received, read, or heard anything about its demise or why they stopped making it. It just never came again and I certainly didn't receive anything about getting my $ back. The crooks stole my money! . I love getting Old Cardboard now, but do wish it came out more often, and I have to say that I didn't subscribe at first because I was afraid I might get burnt again like I did with VCBC.

Yeah, I would LOVE it if Old cardboard ran monthly. I wish there was another monthly vintage publication out there.

VCBC ran into some health problems and VCBC quietly closed. Really not sure about this, just a vague recollection. |

VCBC was sold to Don Betz of Jay's Sports Connection in Baltimore (one of the oldest baseball card stores, but no longer exists). I believe that he published a couple of issues. I don't know what happened after that.

Scott, You're memory is correct. Dennis Purdy sold VCBC to Don Betz. About a dozen issues were published under Betz until his wife became seriously ill. She was handling all of the desktop publishing and computer 'stuff'. Betz abruptly shut down the publication leaving many without an explanation or fulfillment of their subscriptions

The title of this thread could aptly be changed to:
"The History of Hobby Ripoffs"

I knew John Stommen and Chuck Brooks. Both great guys. John used to set up at shows in Michigan. Chuck oversaw a couple of shows in Michigan and put on what was once described as a "National". SCD and the Sport Hobbyist were great publications.
