$1, but I would pay $2 if it didn't say between 1916-21.
By 1921 it's just as likely he was playing stickball or something else out in the street. or maybe the 21 doesn't refer to a date... so $2 then Last edited by alanu; 12-13-2011 at 11:09 AM. Reason: added last comment |

You have to be real careful when buying dust off the street in little pouches.....You never know if it's the real stuff. Even if it is it could be cut with some fake filler and you might not be getting the 100% real deal. There could be some new Louisville Slugger Dust in that stuff too. You gotta be careful, Stay clean...

I foresee a thread in about 6 months discussing whether a game-used Jackson bat was "doctored" or created from the little bags of game-used sawdust...

Here is an auction (not mine) for $200 for the sawdust ...

Not worth a dime to me. At one time (assuming it is legit) it was an incredible piece of baseball history. It's now worthless to me.
Of course I could buy it, split it into two bags of sawdust and double my money... |

ChiSoxFan - it's amazing how much time that guy spent in his description making sure everyone looking at the listing knows just who Joe Jackson is.
PS I'm a Sox fan too & a bit nervous about KW rebuilding this team. |

Ditto. I find your last sentance interesting though. If there were a buyer for this dust how much do they require? Is 1 oz worht $100 and therefore 1/2 oz is only worth $50. Where is the supply/dmd inflection point. Can I sell 1/10th of an oz for $100 as easily as 1 oz?

The good news: highly unlikely it came from a Jackson bat, or even from a bat.

One dealer at the 2008 All-Star Fanfest in New York had a ton of 'em...
![]() (Photo taken July 14, 2008. © Gary Dunaier. Link to upload on Flickr.com: here.) The dealer who was selling these said they came out "a few years ago," and that he hadn't seen them around for sale that much and he was pretty much the only guy who was selling them. They may very well be fakes, but I bought a couple of Ty Cobbs ($15 apiece) because these were produced by the Highland Mint, and I trust them when it comes to authenticity.

........seller changed from BIN to Auction
currently at 10 bucks http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shoeless-Joe...item4ab21f8d48 (My personal vote was for $10 bucks - but I guess this will end at about 20-25) |

I wonder if someone directed the seller to this site? My $5 option stands but I probably wouldn't even buy one for that much. As I said it would only be to sell it for a profit and the $5-$10 profit vs time spent can be better spent. (opportunity cost of time) To each their own though and if someone wants to collect these little bags of dust more power to them. It doesn't harm me so I don't care...LL

Sorry, I wanna change my vote...I put $5, which I think if given the opportunity to buy it for that, I'd seriously consider it. However, after giving it some thought, I'd never touch this, because the acceptance of such garbage only further advocates the destruction of such historical items..

The auction ends at 19:47:57 PST tonight (that's 7.47pm PST, or 10.47pm here in the East)... be interesting to see what it goes for. And no, I don't plan to bid. The two Cobbs I have are enough. Closest I'll ever have to an actual Cobb bat.

Might buy it if it were carbon dated and they found shoeless Joe's DNA on it along with certification from JSA
