I think that although Henry uses the e-bay forum to host his auctions, his are actually much more like Legendary, Lelands, etc. (minus the catalogues) with comparable followings and thus many more bidders than the typical e-bay auction which equates to much higher realized prices than normal private/e-bay transactions.

Despite the inflated prices, I was able to pick up 4 nice pieces...

1. MINT Joe DiMaggio Glass Dish (he had it listed as an ashtray, but I think it's more likely a Bowl for Candies or Mints from Joe D's Restaurant

2. Yankees World Champs Pen & Pencil Set

3. Killer photo of Perez, about to tag the runner at 3rd

4. Crystal clear and razor sharp Type 1 of The Big Train

Once again Mark, your well rounded eye and taste come shining through. Terrific pick-ups! I fell in love with that DiMaggio glass dish too, but I was saving all my dough for the DiMag Rookie photo. And it took just about my whole bankroll to win it. My collection of DiMaggio photos trails my Babe, Lou, and Mick collections by a lot! So I was not going to be denied on that photo.

Your DiMaggio photo is in a whole "other league"... just an incredibly epic early image of The Clipper. That Candy Bowl was right up my alley (and more in my current price range). I thought it would go for lots more, and I was pretty surprised to win it. With all the DiMaggio Restaurant stuff out there, this was a piece I had never seen. Very happy to win it.

And regarding the talk that Henry gets very high prices on his photos, I wish it was true! Being a long time regular consignor with Henry, I can tell you that several of my mid to high grade photos of Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Mays, Aaron, Koufax, Campy and more, fell far short of a fair price, FAR SHORT indeed.

I agree with Jimmy and Phil here. Phil in that most, if not all, of the large collectors of photos and even memorabilia know about this auction. It is also the only auction I know of(with this sort of clientele) that ends ebay style(one shot at it). That is why you see very high prices and ones that fall between the cracks(i.e. Koufax portrait that “packs” posted was a STEAL-Your dad will enjoy!).

RE: Lou Brock photo.
Earlier it was stated of the crazy price of $400 dollars yet the same bidder wanted to snipe at $300. just $100 more?? Photo guys are very passionate collectors. If they see an image they want, it will most likely be tough to find another one. On top of that it is a rookie image used for his rookie card. Based on all of this, I am not shocked it went for $400 at all(so I guess I disagree with you on this one Phil).
In fact, a year or two ago I think this would have went for 4 figures. 25% variance +/- is nothing in photos at auction.


Jimmy is 100% correct that many of the Mid to high Ruth, Gehrigs. mantles etc went far less than they would have 5 years or even a year ago. David purchased that Gehrig with the child for a VERY VERY fair price for example.

MY EXPERIENCE:
I was able to pick up the image below. It is an earlier rookie image of one that sold in Legendary that went for damn near 5k march of 2010. I realize that it is not the exact same photo but there are variables of mine I like better(i.e. earlier and clearer image). I couldn't resist. It will be framed with my 1942 rookie signed GPC also shown below.

Henry is class all the way and people pay a premium for that. When I want something, I do not mind going "huge" in Yee’s auctions knowing full well I get what I pay for. Which is quality, service, knowledge and trust.

PS: Nice rookie image Jimmy. Too bad for that one other bidder or you would have STOLE it for 300ish. Which is one of my points.."only takes to to tango" in an ebay formatted auction. I know you probably had that sniped for 2k anyway so I am sure you are happy

I had an incredibly disappointing couple of days.

I went 0 for 12!!!!! Lost out on both of those David won among the massacre.
Unbelievable!

Great stuff everyone. Good thing ebay never close. I got a few things cooking now, so hope to feed the addiction soon.

I some how managed to have some self control this year. I normally spend way too much on his vintage photos. Last year a flight attendant became quite miffed with me for bidding on my phone while in flight. However, I did manage to get this Ozzie Smith photo yesterday. I normally don't buy modern photos but was thrilled to find a style photo match for my Ozzie Smith spikes.
