Someone else had posted the action photo used as the background on the 1956 Topps Clemente card. Take a look. Looks like he could dunk a basketball too!

Never mind Pete... I always found it hilarious how Chris Short's legs perfectly frame the picture of the dog in the "Alpo" ad on that card. To this day, when I think of Chris Short the first thing that comes to my mind is Alpo. (And I don't even have a dog!)

Theer were some cards in the 1956 set that used the same photo for two different players. I forget exactly which, but there's a photo of a first baseman lunging for a wide throw around a runner.
That same picture is apparently depicting both the firstbaseman and the runner. |

I know this isn't actually vintage but how about the 1983 Topps Rickey Henderson Highlight Card #2......Cal Ripken in background-a-sneaking up behind him......early card of Ripken

Yep. "The Great One" in his Rookie Campaign as he went up extremely high to take away certain extra bases from Brooklyn great PeeWee Resse in the summer of '55 at Ebbets Field. Still one of my favorite photos.

By the way. If you look closely at the 1956 Mantle card you can see the dividing line where Topps spliced the picture to make it wide enough to fit the card. Look closely at the man on the left edge leaning in with the white shirt and black stripe across his chest. He is also leaning right behind the left ear on Mantle of the big picture. Don't have the card anymore but maybe someone could post an example so you can see it.
