Schaefer was born in Chicago, IL. in 1876. I will start this show with his 460 Series T206 (Washington) cards and his T213-2 (K. C. Federal Lge.) card......

This was one from the McIntyre photo album that John Rogers cut up and sold as individual photos: "Schaefer and the Jew" (in Detroit - ca.1905)

My first T206 ...
was Germany Schaefer. Obvious that I bought what I could afford, but somehow the card hooked me, and I now own a near complete set. Schaefer was the fun-loving and creative ballplayer we don't hear enough about.

Hi Ted - Here's one that would fit well with your nice collection of Schaefer backs. I would have posted this sooner, but I was out of town for several weeks.

Hi Jack - My WASHINGTON SENATORS CHECKLIST BOOK VOLUME I (I don't believe a volume 2 was ever produced), produced by Thomas J. Holster in 1995, states that "The Type 3 Elberfeld and Schaefer cards have no team designation." I have an example of this card, but at this late hour, I don't dare risk awakening my wife to open my safe and examine the card to confirm this - I'll check this tomorrow for you.

Thanks Val, I figured they might of snuck a Cleveland onto the bottom since he finished with them in 1918.
That Washington Senators checklist book a senators exclusive thing or were others produced for other teams? |

Joeadcock & Ted - Thanks for the kind words!
Ted - I'm scheduled to have some medical procedures in April, so I doubt that I will make it to the Oaks Show this time around. See you at the Baltimore National, but probably not sooner. Jack - Here's the T213/3 of "Herman Schaefer" with no team designation. Sorry for the lousy pics - my scanner is on the fritz, so I had to use a camera. Best to all, Val |

Jack - Here's a pic of the cover of the Senators Checklist Book. It is 8.5" x 11", softbound, and 230 pages. There are lots of pictures of cards along with interesting tidbits re the Senators history at the bottoms of most of the pages. Tom Holster, the author, is (or was?) a DC area collector - I believe he produced this book mostly as a "labor of love," as I don't believe he sold very many copies of it. A few years ago, I think someone told me that Holster had left the hobby. It's a great pub for anyone who collects Wash. Senators cards!

Hi Mike - A good place to try to find a copy of the Senators Chedcklist Book is the Chantilly (VA) Show, which is happening currently. I already attended this Show on Friday, but I'll keep my eyes open for a copy for you at the next Chantilly Show in July. If memory serves me correctly, Tom Holster lived in Chantilly or close thereto when he produced this book back in the mid-1990s, but I have no idea if he still is anywhere around the Washinton, DC, area.

Just found this thread - I'd be interested in a copy of that checklist book, too, if any are still available.
