I have a dentist's appointment scheduled for that day...I'll cancel it.

And the world ended today for Davy Jones of the Monkees...RIP champ.

but when they went back to the old west in part 3 they may have screwed up the "space-time continuum" and therefore caused an earlier end to the world......

OR, maybe the world was originally supposed to end in 2012, but the trip to the old west in part 3 screwed up the time continuum, making it possible for them to have traveled to 2015 in part 2... Also resulting in the state of the world, 500 years in the future, as seen in Idiocracy...

There really is no upside to predicting the end of the world other than to draw attention to yourself.

If it doesn't happen then you're an idiot and if it does, you can't go around saying "I told you so".

unless of course your prediction alters behaviors that in turn change the space-time continuum

I was really upset on hearing this news. When they made their comeback in the 1980s, approximately 6-9 mos before that, I had a huge resurgence for them all on my own. I got all of my friends listening to them while we were partying like it was 1999 and we had a blast. RIP Davy......you will be sorely missed.

I saw a show where they interviewed a few people about this world ending thing. The mayan cultural guy who was a descendant was the most interesting. he said that other writings refered to astronomical events expected in 4000 something. So the calendar was just a calendar.

His next point was that he had a calendar hanging behind his desk that ended on dec 31 2011. And that he didn't expect the world to end then, just the usefulness of the calendar.

of course, those in the know have the truth - On dec 21 there will be a "rapture" for all baseball cards made between 1986 and 1993. They will be entirely removed from the earth and the resulting loss of mass will cause the earth to leave it's orbit thus ending life as we know it. (So make sure to put them all outdoors, lest you require roof repairs)
