Nothing huge, but I just picked up a Carl Erskine circa 1950's pinback button.
Erskine pitched two no-hitters in the 1950's. I'm adding this to my no-hit pitcher collection on pinback buttons. Seems like 2012 has been the year of the pinback for me so far.... Last edited by Scott Garner; 04-12-2012 at 07:43 PM. |

Trophy
Was thrilled to be the winner of this 6 inch baseball trophy/globet. I believe it is circa 1880 or so as it was an award for Base Ball Throwing and not "Pitching" which I believe came about with the overhand type delivery beginning around 1885 or so. The New York Athletic Club was formed in 1868 and the N.Y. company that made this trophy started in business in 1875 and closed sometime in 1909. Thanks for any opinions if I might have the time frame wrong. Also, would be interested if anyone has seen others in the past with similar markings or any other info you might be able to add. Thanks.

That is one of my favorite Mantle images as well. I picked up these photos recently. I normally shy away from wire photos but picked up the Clemente as it's date is the day after his death and the caption content relates to his death as well. The others are Dizzy Dean (1941), Satchel Paige (1965), and Rick Ferrell (1937). The Chick Hafey is a 1931 Metropolitan Sudios card. Last edited by 71buc; 04-14-2012 at 06:20 PM. |
