FWIW, I'd also like to see how others here display their paintings. Whether or not to frame it (and how to frame it) is an interesting and valid concern. A big decision, to say the least... and a great question for those here who have that experience.

I once had a magnificent Andy Jurinko original of Jackie Robinson... and the dilemma over all the potential framing options made my head spin. I ended up selling the painting, as I needed to raise money. But I still remember the agony over whether to frame it, potential costs, and what type of frame would best compliment the painting.

I wanted to view this thread because I just opened an office and have been thinking about buying a great piece of artwork. Although I have no particular interest in Vander Meer, the emotion that painting evokes of the era and the men who played the game is almost overwhelming. What a joy it woyld be to go to my office every day and be able to gaze upon something like that. Scott of right should be proud of it. It is a remarkable piece.

On tge subject...anyone know what kind of ballpark price such a piece costs when commisioned?

Tom, if you go on to Graig's website, you can message them and they'll get back to you with the current rate (it depends on size etc) and beware that there's a waiting list (a pretty good one if it's like last year when I inquired).

Although I doubt it was Scott's intention in starting this thread... Showing stuff off here is what makes this blah hobby sizzle. But you have to agree Sully, this forum would really suck without pictures, all that would be left is a few knuckleheads that think cussing someone out on the internet makes them look like a hardass, when we all know it's just another way of seeking attention.

Man, the way Graig transitioned the sunlight from the shade of dugout roof and reflected it off Vandermeer's spike is true eye candy. Great stuff Scott -Steve F

Congrats on a beautiful painting.
As many here I too enjoy a Kreindler masterpiece in my home.

I debated the frame to not frame issue when I first got mine as well.
I think there are two parts to the choice. First is the picture itself as Max went into in detail.
The other is where/how you're going to hang it. If it's by itself, then only nature of the picture should really matter. If it is surrounded by other framed works, it might look better matching the surrounding items.

At the time, I did ask Graig about framing. He referred me to Dean(his agent) for a recommendation. I never followed up because the spot it rests in now is only temporary until we finish the basement (hopefully this year)

Currently mine is unframed and looks fantastic. It is hard for me to believe that a frame could make it look any better than it does.

I appreciate you checking in and providing your thoughts and the link to the thread when you received your Lou Gehrig painting. I actually read this when you first posted it, but had forgotten about its existence.

I agree with Randall that I love the pictures of you receiving and unwrapping Lou. It's just like Christmas Day as a kid!! Awesome!!

Geez, with all these private escorts around I feel like I'm in Vegas! By the way, FWIW, I like how paintings look both framed and un-framed but I think it really depends on where it is in the house, what other things are on the wall around it, color of the walls, etc. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong doing either.
