I especially like the '74 Deckle, '69 Super and the '73 Pin-up. I'm with Alan, white or grey back on the Deckle? I'm a fan of the '67 Test Discs as well. Do you happen to have any more of this test issue? |

Back in the mid 1980's I wrote a letter to Jim Hartzell which he kindly responded to & included a vintage original drawing (which he personalized):

Brooks Robinson
Quote:
I agree. Orioles70, those are some nice seldom seen items. Is the 1974 Deckle the white back or gray back version? Thanks to Mark a couple years ago, I have the gray back. White backs are a little tougher. The Brooks photo may be his first team issued 8x10 photo. It's dated 1957 on the back, so I guess there's a possibility of a photo printed in 1955 or 56. I know the early team issued Brooks stuff doesn't show up very often. |

I've seen the 1957 Brooks before, but haven't seen any earlier. I don't have it, but I've at least seen another one. I've seen earlier pictures of Brooks, but they weren't team issued. Keep your connections open for another one please... |

Day 16 (January 16, 2020 – 016)
Alan (BaltOrioles) is the expert on basically everything Orioles related (programs to include minor league, picture packs, postcards, team issue photos…well, you get the drift; “everything”. In fact it’s even rumored that he was a ball player for a minor league Orioles team. Well, he’s been very generous and helpful when it comes to Orioles items and sent me the two following team issue postcards. They are a 1977 team issue postcard (less green on the bottom right) and a 1978 team issue postcard (more green bottom right). At the time I didn’t even know there was a difference. 1977 Postcard Day 16 a 1977.jpg 1978 Postcard Day 16 b 1978.jpg |

Thanks for the kind words. I can't believe all the great items that people are posting. I'm out west visiting the granchildren for a week, so my posts will be a little sporadic. I'll save the minor league story for another time. For those interested, Mark correctly identified Jonathan Villar as the most recent Orioles player to hit for the cycle. The other two are Aubrey Huff and Felix Pie. |

Bazooka
orioles70... The Bazooka panels are awesome! Thanks so much for digging them out for all to see. I've been collecting Brooks for quite some time now and still don't have some of the items you've listed. When I started the thread I was hoping I'd see some nice Orioles or possibly a few Brooks items, but it's been wonderful to view others collections and the quality of items they have in their collections. Thanks so much for posting; appreciate it.

Orioles70, very nice set of test issues. I imagine the 1967 Stand Up Frank (and the associated straight-edge proof) will be on my want list for a long time.
Here are a few more Orioles odds and ends from my collection: 1959 Home Run Derby Gus Triandos: http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173258 1959 Kiwanis Club Ernie Johnson: http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173258 1964 Rawlings Glove Box Brooks: http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173258 1967 Topps Punch-Out Boog (3-card strip): http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173258 |

1968 Topps Test Disc Frank Robinson (Of course the crease takes away from the eye appeal but it's probably the only reason I was able to acquire it): http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173598 A ticket stub from Al Kaline's final game (against the Orioles, Brooks was the starting 3rd baseman): http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173598 Jim Palmer's jersey from his aborted comeback with the Orioles in spring 1991 (purchased directly from his ex-wife): http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173598 http://net54baseball.com/attachment....1&d=1579173598 |

Man, love your collection of items. I've been debating, pretty much since I've been collecting, to pick up or not pick up the 1964 Rawlings glove box cutout. I've had the opportunity to purchase a few times over the years, but never acquired one. Really don't know why specifically, but I sure like the one you have. I guess they all have some type of issue with the corner of the cutout since it was near the Rawlings glove box end. Also, of course I don't have the glove box... |

"Would you believe that...this guy is in another world".
Day 17 (January 17, 2020 – 017)
Brooks has quite a few figurines and there are several using the same pose from the ’70 World Series, Game 3, when Brooks dove to his left to stab a liner off of Johnny Bench. This piece is a 1993 Salvino cold cast porcelain figurine with Brooks’ autograph; believe they were /1000. This really is one of the nicer figurines of Brooks; looks cool on the shelf. Day 17 a Salvino figurine.jpg Below is a photo of one of the several angles taken of Brooks’ dive in the 1970 Series. Day 17 b.jpg |

I think they used some great looking photographs on the front of Baseball Magazine. The photo of Brooks from 1964 is a such a nice pose, plus you have the BLOCK letter ORIOLES with the Star-Spangled Banner Sesquicentennial patch. I might be in the minority, but I really liked all the Oriole uniforms back in the day to include the caps. The block letters were just a nice change and alternative in my view. |

Back in the 1960's when colleges would order bats from Hillerich & Bradsby, not only the colleges name would be on the barrel but the the facsimile signature of one of their players under contract would appear as well.
I mentioned earlier that we gave my youngest son the middle name of Brooks and when I saw on eBay one of those bats (early 60's labeling period) from the college he recently graduated from with Brooks as the player on it, it was a no brainer to grab it. We went down to a appearance at a shop in Baltimore to have it signed: |

The thread might not go 365 days...Who Cares! It's hard to hold back and post just one item! I love what I am seeing. It's just going to get better and better as collectors dig deep into their collections. I liked the magazine covers today especially all the unopened wax and boxes in the background. |

I am guessing the unopened packs in the boxes are put together by yourself and the boxes are stuffed so they appear to be filled . Right ? If you tell me they are all real and full .... I am speechless. It is a great display I love wrappers and boxes. Don’t have much In my collection but the art, colors and graphics on the old Topps products are beautiful. I am sure the photos don’t do it justice. It must display great in person I am jealous !!!

Really like the Orioles team poster. Always wondered why they didn't have a picture of Buford in an Oriole hat since it’s airbrushed. He was on the O’s in 1968 as well...

Once more thing about the poster; that's the same image used for the 1967 Topps Brooks poster. Also, it's the same image Topps used for the 1968 Frank Robinson All Star #373. Any others?

Another magazine cover easily found and inexpensive...not sure if these Scout magazines at that time were available on newsstands as they always seem to have mailing labels or the labels have been peeled off...makes him look like he had a shaving accident and has a band aid on his chin...anybody know if they were newsstand available
