Default 1912 Philadelphia Caramel Pennants - Any info on these?

I recently acquired the April 1912 issue of the Confectioners Journal magazine due to my interest in Croft's Cocoa related items.

While looking through the different period advertisements, I came across an ad for Philadelphia Caramel which talks about a set of 48 City pennants along with 12 Baseball related pennants for a grand total of 60 pennants.

I've had the following Brooklyn pennant in my collection since the mid 1970s which was acquired by my father and I from the original collector. The collection contained many tobacco and candy cards, including quite a few produced by Philadelphia Caramel, but I have never had any idea as to what set the pennant may belong to.

After coming across the above advertisement, I am fairly confident that the pennant that I have belongs to this set of 1912 Philadelphia Caramel pennants as the ad states that the flags are illustrated at actual size and the Brooklyn pennant fits perfectly into the ad.

The pennant measures roughly 4 3/8” in length x 1 1/4" in height along the left edge.

Are there any pennant collectors out there on the board that are familiar with this set and can provide any additional information on it?

Even if not much is known about this set, I'd love to see other examples if there are collectors that think they have pennants that might belong to this set.

I wish I could help, Scott. But just wanted to say that is awesome information. It reminds me of my long ago Blanke Wenneker box purchase.

I've never seen those. I would like to find a Houston pennant if any are out there. I wonder what they sell for?

I would guess not very much. Since the city pennants have a generic look, I bet these don't get recognized much. There is probably someone that hunts these down though. It used to be common for people to buy pennants as souvenirs for all kinds of things like vacations to cities. Most people that run into these and sell them probably have no clue about the baseball connection.

It would definitely be neat to have a few, but they don't seem to be all that common. Thanks to the OP for sharing what you've learned.

That's great information. Considering the source I don't see how that pennant isn't anything but from this promotion.

It's great that the ad even used exact size illustrations.

Now go find the other 59!

Just wanted to bump this post one more time before it drops off the first page again to thank those who took the time to respond.

With the pennants being so plain and fairly obscure, I figured that there is not much information out there on them. That being said, I'm still hopeful that there might be a pennant collector or two out there who might recognize the set and have other examples or any additional information that they can share.

Leon, I remember that awesome Nadja/Blake Wenneker box. Like you, I love adding companion items which are related to the manufacturers of the cards that we love collecting.

I don't remember if i posted this in the advertising piece thread, but here is a Philadelphia Confections "Derby Winner" candy box that I picked up awhile back. To tie it back to this thread, Philadelphia Confections was a brand name that was produced by Philadelphia Caramel.

Note that the E79 boxing card is just to show the scale of the box. Not saying that any of the cards produced by Philadelphia Caramel necessarily came inside the box.

That looks like a similar set in my local antique store. I'm out of town for surgery, won't be home until mid December. If you will PM me or email me approximately December 15, I might be able to take a picture of the pennants they have available. I'm going assume he has a dozen in a riker case. I'll have to measure them, too.
