Default FS: EXTREMELY SCARCE Red Sox Agganis "Death" YearbooK!! SOLD!

This is one of the rarest yearbooks of all! Noone knows anything about it, as there has hardly been any sales! Google for yourself and see. One sold for $700, another for $1,000. This one looks better than both of those! $1,500 or best offer!

Im just now seeing this. What makes this interesting is the cover. It features a player that died near the end of the year. This yearbook pays tribute to him. There just isn't many of these at all out there. I'm guessing 10 or less. When I google it, the only others ones I see sold are the ones worthpoint is touting. One sold for $500, the other for $700. This one blows those two away.

Im not sure how I can do that....I don't want to lay it flat against the scanner.....it's pretty pristine on the inside. The rareness comes from the sudden death of Mr. Agganis and there just isn't many of these out there at all.

Try googling it and looking for past sales....not an easy task. For a program that is 61 years old and with the advent of Ebay, SURELY there should be some past sales on this program.

Maybe I'm just being an ass or had too much to drink or BOTH. This has been one of the most annoying threads I've been following. I am a Red Sox collector and I'm somewhat knowledgeable about Harry Agganis.

You have made several statements that have been pulled from your ass:

1. "This has been one of the rarest yearbooks of all!!"
Where do you get this info?

2. "No one knows anything about it..."
No one?

3. "This one looks better than both of those!"
Hard to tell with your scans.

4. "It features a player that died near the end of the year."
June 27?

5. "There just isn't many of the out there. I'm guessing 10 or less."
Based on what? Google search?

6. "...extremely rare...99% of Red Sox collector don't have this program!"
Because 99% of us don't want/value it.

7. "For a program that is 61 years old and with the advent of EBay, SURELY there should be some past sales on this program."
Just not something people are interested in buying or selling.

Maybe it's just me, but I hate seeing the same crap bumped for weeks on end. Maybe put a price that someone might be interested in or just let it go to EBay. Sorry, nothing against you Bobby, just venting.

As far as rare...find one in another auction house. I will pay you $500. Show me...please...I beg you. There HAVE been sales in the past 15 years....two of them. I count two of them.....I appreciate your smart ass comments. If you can't appreciate the rarity of the item, how about just shut your pie hole??? Thanks!
PS - if a Red Sox collector wants ALL of the yearbooks, they HAVE to attempt to get this one. True, you can just pretend like it doesn't exist, the same way T206 collectors pretend the Wagner, Plank, and Doyle don't exist. However, if you want to have a complete collection........

here is one of the other two. Mine is better than this one. This one sold for $700 (the crappy scan above you on the left). Contrary to what you think, you CAN blow up my scans. Nice and big! The only other two I have ever been sold have both been on Worthpoint. I am sorry, I have not seen past sales anywhere else. Please don't get upset with me because my item is rare.

Yah well here's a 3rd sale, let me know if you are going to Paypal me the $500 or send a check. I'll provide the address of whichever you prefer.

http://www.auctionscc.com/archive/20...yearbooks/216/

Went in a lot of Red Sox yearbooks, the whole lot went for $218 November of 2013.

they never specifically mentioned this program. They overlooked it as well. Find me one that specifically has this program by itself....NOT hidden in some lot where the seller had no clue what they had!

+2 - if you can't afford it just say so. Don't poo-poo it and say that it is so rare that no one wants it. If it is so rare no one wants it, why does Worthpoint have the only two recorded sales of the program? One at $1.000, the other at $700??????????

Looks like you lose out.....that link only shows the 1951 Yearbook and the 1956 yearbook. It DOES NOT show the 1955 yearbook.

PS . the link you listed is for the normal 1955 yearbook...not the RARE one!! This is the normal one...

If you want, give me your address...I'll send you some type of booby prize for trying!

I don't see where Bob deserves any grief here.

The Agganis story makes for very interesting reading. Particularly in my mind the question whether he received substandard medical care resulting in his premature and tragic death.

Agreed. Thanks Peter! It's very similar to the situation our veterans are in today in their dealings with our VA hospital. It's an EXTREMELY rare program! Almost to the point where it is considered SCARCE!

Say what????? I agree he doesn't deserve the grief but, his posts...man, they leave you scratching your head!

Good luck with the sale. You might go try it on ebay and get some real exposure to see if your price point is correct.

Cant...it's too scarce. Hard to price when you have never seen any for sale. It is that rare. The only place you can see the past two sales from the last 15 years is Worthpoint, and honestly, how many of ya'll are worthpoint members!?!?!?! With all the free info out there, no one wants to pay to be told what something is worth.

There is an Agannis ball in the current REA auction...may have them offer it to the winning bidder.

What makes you think they would do such a thing because I highly doubt they would. Better yet, see if they would be interested in consigning to their next auction.

If there is money to be made, they would do what they need to do. Obviously charge the consignor fee for the cost associated.

There is no such thing as "too scarce".

Put it on ebay with a $1,750 buy it now or best offer, and note in the description that you are open to offers.

It doesn't cost anything, and you may get some offers or info from the ebay audience.

I think the Net54 audience has proven to not be where it's going to sell (probably).

But I could be wrong,
Doug

Default Two of them just listed on ebay

Neither has pictures of the Agganis Dedication.

If I was looking for this program for my collection, I wouldn't be buying either of these until I saw a picture of the dedication. So you should both add picture(s) of the page(s).

And don't bother telling me "it's too fragile" to take a picture, that would qualify as a stupid reason.

Hi Doug....I think that the OP was offering a $500 reward if you found another one....you should look into this.

I forgot about that, the exact quote was:

PS - if a Red Sox collector wants ALL of the yearbooks, they HAVE to attempt to get this one. True, you can just pretend like it doesn't exist, the same way T206 collectors pretend the Wagner, Plank, and Doyle don't exist. However, if you want to have a complete collection........
Bobby - let me know how you would like to send my reward.

Insert smiley face here.
Doug

PS - Jeff, I'll give you a "reminders fee" when I get my reward...

Fortunately at your price it will be on Ebay for 10 years as well. Nice to see you dropped it $800 by the way. Should give someone plenty of time to fill that "EXTREMELY SCARCE" yearbook that has been eluding them.

You are talking shit and dogging someone's BST thread out when you have no freaking clue how rare it is or what it is really worth. So shut it.

Just a quick search, now that my intersest is in this again. Wonder how many more Mom and Pop places have this yearbook, but are holding on to it because of its' scarcity. Shoot them an offer, maybe they'll take $1200.
