Default Fantastic Collection Found!!!! Pre-War Scan Heavy

Hey Guys!
So about 2 years ago my friends uncle died, But my friend happened to inherit his modest baseball card collection. 2 years ago he told me to come over to his house to tell him if the cards were worth anything, and I can't tell you the amount of times I have been disappointed with binders of 1991 score, but needless to say this was different. There are only a few boxes but the cards blew my mind! I helped him grade and sell a few a couple of years ago but now I am helping him with the more expensive items and I included a few scans for your viewing pleasure

Other Highlights not scanned:
1952 Berk Ross Complete Set - The Mantle graded 5.5
1963 Topps Complete Set - Missing the Rose RC
7 1968 Topps Action Stickers Complete Sheets - W/ 3 Clementes, 2 Mays and a Mantle
Several Complete bazooka boxes - 1962 clemente, 1963 clemente, 1963 Koufax
About 50 more HOF tobacco cards not shown below!

I'll be posting more photos through out the night!

Not much post war, other than the bazooka, 63 Topps and 52 Berk Ross but here are some Post-War Highlights from the collection.

I had some berk ross graded last year to introduce him to grading and to show him the differences between grades and the importance of PSA. lol

Don't know what the plates were for, they look to be Mule Haas (maybe) and Rube Marquard.

The printing plates are two different sizes. The one of the man batting measures 2 1/16" by 4 5/16 inches. The one of the man on base? measures 1 1/2" by 4 inches (measurements are of the actual plates). They both have I.P.E.U. 156 engraved into the wood and after a quick google search I found that it stands for the "International Photo Engravers Union." Not sure what the 156 stands for but interesting to say the least.

Also, does anyone know anything about the Mack ticket?

Lastly, yes, the cards will be sold. I still need to look through them and organize them but I do intend on selling everything. Items that need to be graded willl be sent out within the next few weeks and everything else will be listed on ebay or consigned sometime soon. Thanks, Jason

Haha yeah its funny because my friend told me that the relatives emptied out the house taking the sofa, tv, silverware and even his books but no one wanted the baseball cards. He was pretty shocked when I told him their value lol

I picked up this printing plate with I.P.E.U. 402 with 404 in pencil and the diamond shape but have not been able to find out anything about it. It measures 1 3/4" by 3 1/16". Good luck with finding out about yours.

FYI to the original poster, those pics take up a lot of bandwidth because of all the black background that should be cropped out.

No need to upgrade to pro - just switch to using an image host that is free.

I love that Moline ticket...Connie Mack owned all of the Athletics minor league clubs. I have two similar tickets for Lincoln Athletics games in 1948.

I got one of my tickets at a local auction and paid about $70 for it..I found the other on ebay and paid about $50 for it. Until I saw yours today I was fairly certain that the Lincoln club had made these special tickets, but now I think the Philadelphia club probably had these made and sent them down to their minor league clubs.

Are you moving these in a major auction house, ebay, private sale, or some combination?

Most likely a combination of the three. Obviously, I need to send a few items out to get graded but some of the rarer and more expensive cards I will end up consigning while many will be ebayed off. Private sales are welcome but the bulk will be ebay.

On the scarcer "type" cards (nonT206/Goudey), you may want to consider SGC when you get them graded
Especially the R306, T215, T216 group, E286, etc.
Just a thought...

I'd love to know how collections like this one are assembled. Was this person the original owner? I wonder what he saw in Harry Gaspar.

Default Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Sorry for bringing back an old topic but I still receive emails about the status of the cards. I realized I was in over my head so I sent the nicer cards off to Goodwin. The auction ends February 11th [L=Link]http://www.goodwinandco.com/default.aspx[/L].

This is the first time I have consigned an item to an auction house so hopefully they do well and sorry for hyping up my cards on the boards.

I'm sure many of you will be happy to know that most of the cards safely reside in SGC holders now.

Lot #51: 1902-11 Sporting Life W600 Harry Gasper Uniform SGC 5.5 EX+ “Only Copy Listed on BOTH the SGC and PSA “Pop” Charts!”
Lot #70: 1913-15 Pinkerton Hans Wagner Postcard #872 Scorecard Back SGC 3 VG “The Only Hans Wagner Pinkerton Scorecard Graded by Either SGC or PSA!”
Lot #77: 1911-16 Kotton Cigarettes T216 Ty Cobb Batting SGC 1
Lot #78: 1911-16 Kotton Cigarettes T216 Christy Matthewson SGC 3 VG “1 of 1 - Only 2 Graded Higher”
Lot #79: 1911-16 Kotton Cigarettes T216 Chief Bender SGC 4 VG-EX “1 of 3 - NONE Graded Higher!”
Lot #105: 1909 E101 Honus Wagner Batting SGC 2 Good

What happened to the Mello, Mino and Eclipse cards? Did you already sell them? Nice auction.
