Default WTB- Paying $40.00 for a Trader's Speaks Mag.

Posted By: Tim Kindler

I'm placing a BOUNTY on a specific Trader's Speaks Magazine. A couple years back, I bought the only known Honus Wagner E98 with an OLD PUT back. In the bio from REA Auctions it stated that the consigner bought it from an add in The Trader's Speaks from about 25 years ago. This was the REA auction of 2007, and you can read it from REA's archives. Anyway "about 25 years ago" would make it from 1980, 81, 82, 83, or 84 (I believe that they stopped making it in mid 1984, but not sure on that). About 3 months ago, I bought all of the 1980, 1981, and 1982 issues that Matt had for sale on the board (Thanks Matt!). Unfortunatly, I can't find the add for E98s with OLD PUT backs that the consigner was refering to in those years. ( I'm still happy with my purchase though, they are neat to look at!) That leaves the 1983 and 1984 issues that may have the ad.

My bounty is this: If you have an 83 or 84 issue and can find the add in it, I want to buy that magazine fully intact from you. I will pay anyone $40 to take the time to look it up, help pay the cost of the mag, and the shiping costs. (Your profit will be around $30, plus your time involved to find it!) The catch is this. If it is a larger ad like some of them are, it will probably be easy to find and easy money. If it is in one of those tiny ads in the back, it will take more time. Anyway, if you have the time and the magazines to look in, plesae consider my offer. I would really appreciate someone helping find the provenance on this card. I also have 4 other E98s with OLD PUT backs and the REA ad said it came from an ad with OLD PUTS in it which might mean that it has others that I own as well.

I love the "HUNT" in collecting!

Thanks,
Tim Kindler email: stkindler@verizon.net

Tim,

I can say with near-certainty that the ad you're looking for is not in TTS issues from January 1983 through November 1983. I took my time, searched through each of those 11 issues and came up empty.

There's always a chance I missed it in the classified ads in the back of the issues, but I doubt it.

I'll look through 1978 and '79 issues when I get a chance.

Rob

Rob,
Thanks for taking the time to look for me. The REA add made it sound like it was a bigger add, not one of the hundreds of teeny, tiny adds in the back, but I'm just not for sure. I just hope I can find it someday and confirm the consigners story on the background of my Wagner.
Thanks, Tim Kindler
