Default OT: Happy Veteran's Day

While I have never served in the military, I'm sincerely grateful for all of those who have sacrificed so much in defending this great nation. Whether in combat or non-combat situations, I want to wish a very happy Veteran's Day to all those on this board who served.

As I type, the Veteran's Day parade here in Phoenix is going on about 100 feet from my backdoor. This day is bittersweet for me, as it reminds me so much of my dad, who fought in Korea. I was lucky enough to have grown up at a time when there was no war and thus no chance of draft or need to enlist. Like so many things, you don't really appreciate that until years pass and you see how so many others weren't as fortunate. War is horrific. I remember asking my father back in the day if he ever watched *MASH*. He looked down and said "No, there was nothing funny about that war". As he was a generally good-natured guy, I knew to leave that one alone.

I try not to miss an opportunity to thank a Veteran for his/her service, which I feel wholly inadequate in expressing. This is especially true today. Whatever your views on the righteousness of war might be, Veterans have without doubt made extreme sacrifices for this country. I sincerely and humbly thank every board member who has served and protected us, and hope you enjoy this day in your honor.

Thankyou past, present and future Veterans!

Default Honoring Veteran's Day

A snappy salute to all Net54 veterans of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy.

Yep, that is me in the Summer of 1960, just out of basic training at San Antonio, Texas. Actually,
I was lucky....as a Radar Electronics Specialist, I enjoyed 4 years in the Air Force. I met my wife
while stationed in Northern Maine on a SAC base loaded with many B52 bombers. It was awesome
to be inside a B52. Ask Slim Pickens and James Earl Jones (Dr. Strangelove)
All this was during the Cuban Missle Crisis and the start of the Vietnam War.

I personally did not serve but my father( Air Force) and my in-laws (Navy) did. My mother-in-law passed on veterans day-my wife spent the day with her father on the 1 year passing of her mother.
Thank you all Veterans. Very special day for us.

A hundred pounds and a hundred years ago.
Happy Veterans Day to all of my comrades in arms and, not to be mawkish, to those who did not come home or were damaged. The real heroes.
