| Dilemma...

My card buying budget is smaller than it typically is right now but a friend just gave me $500 (to support my habit), and told me to buy myself a nice card! Up to this point, I have only collected vintage baseball but I know a guy who is selling a beautiful O-pee-chee PSA 7 Gretzky rookie for $500. I know I could buy a nice bb card but have been wanting a Gretzky rookie for quite some time, merely for the investment. I think those cards show plenty of but promise. Just looking for opinions on what you would do in my shoes. Thanks!

$500.00 is a fair price for a PSA 7. Most PSA 6's are priced at that amount. If the Gretzky is centred well, go for it!

| of course

Easy answer is buy what you want to. However, if you make the buy into an investment (only) then I would, obviously, look for what you feel is the best card(s) to do that. There are a ton of pre-war baseball that are down 50%, or more, if you look around. I would probably go try to find a couple "bargains" in the $200-$250 range.....spreading risk is a bit safer for investing. I sort of hoped you would say you want to buy something that you really enjoy collecting AND will be a good investment. I hope that is the actual case. It will make it more fun and might even be better, long term, since so many cards are down right now. Good luck..
