Thanks for sharing and I hope I'm wrong but I suspect your Goudey Ruth and Aaron rookie are reprints...do you recall where you got them and how much you paid?

I am concerned with the Ruth also since the colors seem to be faded, and it looks like his fingers "may" have been cropped. Hard to see w/ the scan, of course. Here is a thread with help on determining if these cards are genuine or fake: Link

I am only 98.9% sure the Ruth Goudey is fake. There is that 1.1% chance the scan is so poor it makes it look like that. I think the Aaron is the same way but I am not quite as sure....

You can tell the Ruth was soaked to make it look older by the color and dispersal of the fibers on the edges and corners. Definitely fake.

No opinion on the Aaron, but the Evers is a presumed trim based on the questionable grader -- top left corner is more than suspicious...

ruth's face is way too dark, it's a reprint (one of those "racoons" fakes). how is the light switch in the background have better focus than the card you're taking a pic of?

use a scanner... or place the card on a table and use two hands on the camera.

Set to macro mode on your camera if you don't have a scanner.

I would agree that Ruth's face seems too dark to me. In particular, his brow and the "lines" of his face seem darker and more pronounced than they do normally. It also appears there's a pretty even "darkening" of the edges/corners on the front and back which is another tell-tale sign that someone tried to give the card a more "authentically aged" appearence.

The Aaron I'm not sure about, could go either way on that, but as with the Ruth, I can't really tell based on the photo. From what I can see, I'm about 95% certain the Ruth is a fake and could go 50/50 on the Aaron.

I would try to use a scanner if you have access to one....

The ruth is 100% fake and the coloring of the borders on the Aaron concerns me.

The Ruth and Aaron certainly don't look good to me...not even the right contrast on them. Welcome to the board, but probably not the introduction you were looking for.

as a newbie collector myself, i think that you're on the right track there. until i have more expertise, i buy slabbed. if i want to yank them out of the slab, i can and at least i have some peace of mind that what i bought is real.

Welcome aboard!

On your cards, I agree the Ruth does not look good and I would also be concerned with the Mantle Exhibit, post a back pic and I can give you a better idea if its real or a reprint, sorry.

Aaron is also 100% fake. This particular Aaron reprint is easy to tell by the faded area that runs horizontally across his forehead through the spot where the red bill of his hat connects to the blue crown.

Why is it that the only cards you have for sale are either fake or altered? Are any of your Mantles for sale?

This thread pretty much sums up what is wrong with the industry today. I hate to think how many fake Ruths are socked away in peoples safes and albums of unsuspecting casual collectors. Unfortunately, when you add all the reprint cards in fake TPG holders, you have a real mess.

I think there are extremely few (though I am sure there are a few) reprint cards in SGC, PSA or Beckett holders. As for fakes in unsuspecting collectors collections I think there are thousands and thousands and it's unfortunate.

This thread also points out what knowledgeable collectors exist here, the quickness they act with and overall support the community has and exhibits against FRAUDS! This whole thing came unraveled in minutes, actually seconds if you look at the time of the posts. I thank Leon for all he does but several members got involved very quickly and in a respectful way IMO.

The knowledge of this board is a huge plus to this sector of the industry. Perhaps the number of reprint or suspect cards in TPG isn't a huge problem yet, but it is getting there. iMO, you are starting to see more of it with high-grade non-vintage cards (50's & 60's).

Then what are you doing here, saying that CSA is a reputable grading company, and comparing it to PSA, SGC and Beckett? This card is trimmed and worth well under $100.

Stop preying on people as "unknowledgable" as you. Maybe you should just stick with Nascar toys...

Would love to know the name of the dealer you said is buying them back as authentic. That way, we can avoid him as well.

And...Why would you refer to a "rare Piedmont back" when you must know that this is one of the most common backs there is?

My personal favorite.

"CARD is over 100yrs old ---you never see another one offered at this price."

It's amazing how that statement still applies whether the card is offered at $6000 or $750
