What do you think this will be worth in 100 years? What do you think this is worth today? 38 offers and counting. Disclaimer: This thread is clearly not vintage, but represents a potential opportunity for long term investors. I'm afraid that I am too old to cash in on this unique opportunity. Please note as well that I am not the seller and am not indirectly involved in this auction in any way.

That's nuts!
Trout's great, but in my honest opinion, that card will never be worth $50K.

I can't see how we can call Trout great, he's played one year and had a huge year. But to call him great is getting ahead of our self, lets give him acouple more years and see what he does.

Friends of mine that aren't collectors ask me about the hobby a lot. They wonder why in the heck anyone would buy a modern rookie card, even with autograph for thousands of dollars. I collect some modern, and have some insight into that market. In my opinion, cards like that Trout will not be worth nearly what the asking price is on it, even a few years from now. I think that is true even if he goes on to have a Hall of Fame career.
A lot of you guys are way better at making money from this hobby than I am...I'm no business man. But what I think is happening is that guys like the one selling the Trout in the link are basically playing "hot potato" with these cards. They buy and sell and hope to not be the one holding the card when the price finally drops. I saw the same card, a similar one to the above, numbered /10 that was going for 1500 BIN, it sold, then 2000 BIN with another seller. IMHO, no one wants a 2500$ Mike Trout in their *collection*. They're just commodities at that level. |

I'd like to know why Trout autographs his cards using the name "Man 7l". Don't get it.

Come on man...
Just because the buyer has it for $50k doesn't mean it's worth $50k. At most probably around $5-$7k. I can list a card for a million, doesn't mean it's worth that much...
