Default A bit OT: Ed Lauter has died.

OK. You may not remember the name, but that is the plight of most character actors. Ed Lauter, who appeared in "Trouble With the Curve" has passed away, or as many of us remember him from the original "Longest Yard," Captain Wilhelm Knauer. He was in one of the most intense scenes in movie history when his character almost shot Burt Reynolds' character after the game as Paul Crewe was walking across the field to retrieve the game ball.

Just watched Longest Yard yesterday for about the 100th time. I was wondering what else he has appeared in because you are right that scene is intense. I was looking especially at that scene because I thought he should of shoved the rifle into Hazen's chest as he said, "GAME BALL". He kinda just hands him the rifle.

I liked him in "Cujo" and "Magic", Two pretty scary movies. He was also in Charles Bronson's last Death Wish movie I believe....

You are confusing Ed Lauter with Michael Conrad who was also in "The Longest Yard" as convict Nate Scarboro, a former New York Giants player. Scarboro joked during the movie about making his first touchdown in the Guards-Con game after all of his years in the pros. Conrad died of cancer in 1983.

Sad to hear about Ed Lauter.

One of my favorite character actors.

RIP, Mr. Lauter.

Thank you for clearing that up Brian. I seem to get confused a lot these days.
