Did they ever use bats so light, especially during this era?

It has a very odd shape.. not the typical taper that I would expect to see.

The seller states the string and wire rings were common for this era. Has anyone ever heard of such?

String, twine, cord, etc. was used on the handle area but I am not so sure about the barrel. It looks like there may be a crack an it was used to keep it together.

I'm with Muprh...leanin' more towards some sort of tool or implement handle than a bat. Like MGHPro said...not really the right shape (or weight) for a bat from this period. If that twine/wire had been wrapped around the handle we might be having a slightly different discussion.
