T206 Bob Ganley - Back Difficulty
After eight years of collecting and tracking Ganley I have, without using pop reports, come up with my difficulty ranking by back. There are seven possible backs with 4 being pretty tough. This ranking is based on how many I've witnessed come to market through ebay, auction houses, b/s/t, shows and dealer websites.
Easy: Piedmont 150 - By far and away the most available Sweet Cap 150 Fact 25 - Pied 150 is 8:1 more common Sweet Cap 150 Fact 30 - Pied 150 is 12:1 more common Tough to Scarce: Brown Hindu - Pied 150 is 30:1 more common Sovereign 150 - Pied 150 is 30:1 more common. This back has dried up and may be even more difficult than Hindu. Scarce to Rare: EPDG - Pied 150 is 80:1 more common Piedmont 350 - Pied 150 is 100:1 more common Oddities: Name at top and bottom - 4 examples Wet Sheet Transfer - 1 example War Paint(name I've given the very bright examples with red streaks across his face and nose - Witnessed a handful at most Printers Mark - Never seen one Two Name Card - Never seen one Severe miscut - Never seen one It's possible to shoot holes in my comparisons so if you would like to share what you have then please contribute. Eric

Good information Eric.
I have nothing to add. If you have been following the Ganleys for 8 years then I'm sure your research is solid. Thanks for posting the numbers. The only question I have is what are the backs on the two same name examples? Jantz |

Eric, first of all, show us your back run. Second, how can a Piedmont 350 be that rare?

Use the search function with the keyword "Elite Eleven" These T206s have been discussed here in that thread. Jantz |

Jantz - Both are Pied 150's. I have a goal of reaching five, but since it's already a more limited production card the odds of that happening are slim. Do you own the two in your attachment?

Congratulations Eric
Ganley is one of the "Elite 11" subjects in the 150/350 series......in which their PIEDMONT 150, SOVEREIGN 150, SWEET CAPORAL 150
cards are relatively easy to find. And, their brown HINDU, while tougher, is not too difficult to find. But, try to find a PIEDMONT 350, or an EL PRINCIPE de GALES back on these 11 guys. You will discover that this is a real challenge. The Elite 11 subjects are...... Dahlen (Boston) Ewing Ganley Tom Jones (St Louis) Karger Lindaman Mullin (throwing) Schaefer (Detroit) Schulte (front view) ** Shaw (St Louis) Spencer Actually, there are 12 subjects in this "elite" group. The 12th guy is Lundgren (Cubs). There are approx. 300 - Lundgren PIEDMONT 150 cards in circulation. To date, there are about only 12 examples (graded and un-graded) of this card with the PIEDMONT 350 back. . ** Note To date, only one Schulte exists with the PIEDMONT 350 back. And, no EPDG has been found of Schulte. T-Rex TED . |

Thanks Ted. I have successfully completed both the Lundgren and Ganley back runs. The one I'm missing is the Lundgren KC Carolina Brights and not sure that I'll ever get it. What next? Those two were years in the making and not sure of my next challenge.

Eric
The Sovereign 150 backs for the Elite 11 subjects are definitely less available than either the Piedmont 150 backs, or the Sweet Caporal 150 backs.

I don't own either of the two same name Ganleys that I posted. I thought maybe you did or they were two of the four you reference to in your original post. The reason I posted them was maybe you hadn't seen them before or maybe the chance that the scan would help you with your research. I'll admit, I grab scans from everywhere, so when I posted it I wasn't sure if it was originally yours. Jantz |

Ganley top
I picked up this ganley a while back.....it's a dupe but it was one of the first I got with a sliver on the top which is why I bought it.
I'm not a name on top/scrap kind of collector though...... Smudge on the face is weird too.....gray? ganley.jpg |

Oh and btw...
Forgot to mention that Eric's a turd for getting the ganley EPDG.
I thought I would get it with a snipe at ~25$ less then it ended.....guess I wasn't the only one thinking that! Grats on the card and completing the run!!!! |

I am a turd and not denying that. I have been waiting long enough that I would have paid well over what I did. The real congrats goes to the seller and hopefully he had some good margin in it. You and Jantz should stay in touch as I will keep hunting them to help you locate what you need.

So there's only been one Schulte found with a Piedmont 350 since then? I'll go check my cards just in case. |

Can anybody tell me where in the spectrum of difficult backs a Sovereign 460 sits.

Do you mean that you have a Ganley w/ Sov460? That would defy all odds.

Sorry Eric, I guess I kind of saw an opportunity to ask a question in this thread. Nope, no him.

You never know w/ T206. I think the Sov 460 is a little tougher than ranks.
