Default 1955 Topps set: How common are they O/C?

Here are my four graded cards from this set. You will notice that none of them are qualified grades.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Did PSA start labeling them as o/c sometime after mine had been graded, did they just miss them or is this a chronic issue with the set?

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????

From what I can see only the Koufax front would be considered centered.

I have the 55 set minus a couple cards (REGRET selling them, now looking to rebuy) and can say my set if graded would range from 2 to a couple maybe hitting 6...most live in the 3 range. I do have a nice SGC 6 Killebrew ( I have several raw versions as well, favorite player) and after reading your post thumbed through the binder. I'd say 60% of my set is somewhat OC, some worse, some slight. But clearly a decent representative of cards and I would easily say it was tough to find really tight centering. I think the layout of the cards lends to forgive some OC, much like the 54s.

Anyhow...just a guy looking through his cards, but yes, more OC percantage wise than most years would be my opinion...but speaking to how PSA has handled it, no clue.

I believe the answer lies in the numbers your cards received. PSA has a sliding scale of centering requirements, so examples that may look a bit OC to the common eye, actually fit into the centering parameters of a 5, 6 or 7. If any of these cards were given an 8, then the OC would've been put on the label.

AFAIK, they have had qualifiers for a long time, but they've always been inconsistent in their use. As mentioned, most have no problem meeting the centering requirements for the grades they were given, but I would have given the Mays an OC as a 7. Back centering means less than front centering, per their own rules, easily found on their website.
