Default Ebay selling question

Sorry if this has been covered before.

if I sell a PSA graded t206 on ebay it says I need to mail it to an authenticator first and then they mail it to the buyer.
Is that necessary?
Can I just send directly to the buyer or will there be "repercussions"?

thanks ~ Rob

No, there is no way around you have to send it to the authenticator. But there are work arounds which screws up the algorithm thereby avoiding the eBay’s Authenticity program. The most common way is to put “ Set Break” ( make sure it is “Set Break” and not “Set-Break”) in the title listing.

If its $250 or higher, you mail it to authentication first.

Apparently the word “pack” will also do it, but not “pack fresh”.

Conversely, I just sold a 1964 Piniella raw for $3.95, and it thinks i need to send to authenticate. What the heck I did to trigger than in my title, I have no idea.
Title was "1964 Topps #167 Senators Rookie Stars Lou Piniella RC WELL CENTERED EX"

I just tested the "Set Break" theory on my T206 Cobb I have for sale, and it did not remove the authenticity guarantee.

A friend sells all his cards raw with "Awesome Cigar Box Find" in title, and that breaks algorithm. maybe "box" is what does it.

That’s interesting. They must have fixed that glitch. Another way to avoid the algorithm is to do what Niccolo said and put “Pack” in the title. You could also offer “free pick up” and that breaks the algorithm also.

I think I also heard that if you are selling more than one card at a time, it breaks it. Might need to use “2 card lot” in the title.

And throw in a 1988 Donruss common that you’ve got laying around.

I looked at the original listing. I don’t know why it has to be sent to an authenticator.

I am similarly bemused by this outcome. Went back and checked the conditions disclosed by eBay, and they continue to cite $250 as the point at which the requirement kicks in for trading cards.

Maybe using that GarageSale listing tool triggered it? Were any of your other listings made that way? I scanned a few and didn't see any. Maybe try and make a listing with GarageSale and see.
