I briefly tried to determine who the NHL referee was during the 1933-game that Ace Bailey was hit from behind by Eddie Shore.
It ended Bailey’s career and was the impetus for the first All-Star game. The game was a charity event for supporting Ace. I want to think it was Mickey Ions, but I can’t prove it. Can anyone help me (proof of an article or box score would be great!!)

Yeah, I found Cleghorn and Daigneault listed in the box score as referees.

I thank you guys for the excellent, and speedy response!
ChatGPT let me down. Another demerit about AI as it doesn’t pick up text within pictures very well, so the machines likely skipped right over the images of the box scores. But that’s irrelevant now, as my long shot target was hit by you expert marksmen! Here’s why I wanted to know… I’m collecting Hockey Hall of Famers, one card per player who has a reasonable card to find. With this quest, I have run into many guys whose history I didn’t know. I ended up buying a Mickey Ions card from back when he was still a player (he started in lacrosse) When I got a Red Horner card, I researched him to find that he was the main retaliator for Toronto , sticking up for Ace Bailey in that game. He was suspended along with Eddie Shore. So I thought I’d recreate the main characters in this fascinating moment of Hockey history by gathering cards of Bailey/Shore/Horner and the referee. I was kinda hoping it was Ions because my subset would be complete🤓 The Cleghorne connection is equally cool, as Sprague was known as a great enforcer/tough guy/ maybe a dirty player . I have a Sprague Cleghorne card, now I will add one of his brother Odie! Next , I will look to find cards of all the players from that first All-Star game. While many were HOF players, I will fill in the rest too! Thanks again! (Oh and if you have prewar hockey cards for sale… hit me up!)
