Default NL batting title

We're currently on pace for the lowest-ever average to win a batting title in the NL. (Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman are the leaders at exactly .300.)

Do you think MLB will continue to try and make rule changes to increase batting averages? I've heard a lot of rumors but who knows what they will try with Manfred at the helm.

No. No one cares or teaches how to hit for average anymore sadly. Its all launch angle.

For the sole purpose of increasing batting averages? It's doubtful. As the saying goes, "chicks dig the long ball."

I could see a scenario, though, where rule changes inadvertently lead to higher averages. Manfred seems willing to tinker with the rules. Making things easier for the hitters would likely lead to more offense and (ultimately) higher revenue totals. So, yeah. If something looks promising, Manfred will probably try it.

Yup. People want to see Schwarber up there, not Arraez.

MLB certainly loves HRs, for sure. The shift rule though - this was designed to increase batting averages, wasn't it? It seems like it didn't really have the desired effect. I could see them trying to do an even more extreme version of this.

I've also heard everything from outfield shift rules, moving the mound back or down, to "starting pitcher must throw X # of innings" with the idea that they would then be encouraged to throw lower velocity.
