I wanted to share a pair of vintage tickets from the Notre Dame vs. Northwestern game held at Notre Dame Stadium on November 21, 1936 — which was also Alumni Weekend in South Bend.

Kickoff: 1:45 P.M. (CST)

Opponent: Northwestern Wildcats

Venue: Notre Dame Stadium

One ticket is a regular admission (Section 1, Row 45, Seat 9 – $2.00 + $0.20 tax = $2.20 total).
The other is an Alumni ticket (Section 34, Row 24, Seat 17 – $3.00 + $0.30 tax = $3.30 total).

The design is classic 1930s: engraved stadium artwork, football figures, and vibrant section/gate lettering. What makes these pieces truly special, though, is that Amelia Earhart was in the stands for this game.

1932: First woman to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic — an achievement that made her an international icon.

1935: Completed the first solo flight from Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California. Later that year, she also made solo flights from Los Angeles to Mexico City, and Mexico City to New Jersey, setting speed and distance records.

1936 (the same year as this game): Earhart had just received a Lockheed Electra 10E, the plane she intended to use for her around-the-world flight. She was deep in planning and preparation for that historic attempt, which would tragically take place the following summer in 1937.

So when Earhart attended Notre Dame Alumni Weekend in November 1936, she was at the absolute height of her fame — America’s most famous aviator, a global celebrity, and a trailblazer for women. Less than eight months later, she would vanish over the Pacific Ocean on her world flight attempt.
