Default T205 Sale Advice

Hello Net54,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but always found this site to be a great source for my favorite prewar set, the T205. I have decided to sell my partial set and was wondering if anyone has any advice or recommendations on auction houses vs eBay vs Net54 or maybe taking them to the next National. The average grade is about a 2.9 so we are not talking about Christie’s or Southerbys and 80% are SGC double digit style slabs with various backs. I have seen a few posts where people have been unsuccessful selling complete sets(because building is the fun part), so would it make more sense for HOF, SPs, and Errors go to auction and the rest private sale? Not trying to make a killing but maybe not wanting to make 200 trips to the Post Office! Thanks for taking the time to read.

So it sounds like you prefer not to sell them individually, at least not on your own. And maybe you’re thinking of selling them in batches?

Are you in a hurry? Or are you happy to take your time?

Similarly, how much work are you willing to put in? Are you willing to scan each card, and respond to questions from buyers? Or do you prefer to let someone else take care of those details?

These elements will probably dictate whether it makes sense to sell here, go through an eBay consignment shop like Greg Morris, or send them off to an auction house, preferably one that aligns with your stuff and your desired approach.

If I was you I would do the following:

Send all the Hall of Fame, Sort Print and Minor League players to Robert Edwards Auctions (this is personal preference based on professionalism and the price they are able to achieve via auction). Negotiate for 100% of the hammer.

You can then lump the remaining cards by team, and either sell on Ebay, or start contacting dealers to find out what they would offer (depending on the time / return you are looking for).

REA marketplace

5% fee

Try that for 6 months, then move anything that hasn’t sold to one of their monthly/quarterly auctions.

You can sell here via BST...I would be interested in seeing what you have.
If you have PSA 2s send me front/back scans

T205s are a great set to sell (or collect) because there are enough of them to give you fairly reliable pricing.

Sterling would be a good choice. The point about REA for the higher end (4 figures) is a good one. I would spread the sales out over 6 or 8 of Sterling's auctions. Sterling gets good attention for anything pre-war and especially T205. Lower BP, etc.

Always a fun set! Good luck with the sale - Net54 BST might be worth a look, sense it's not real high grade for this set. Also REA has the marketplace now or maybe it's only for single cards - I would ask them or just wait for a premier auction and the national is a good idea too!

Throw 10 of them on the b/s/t with scans and a price. Offer a discount if multiple cards are purchased. See how the process goes after a few days (it's free!) and re-evaluate if you want to continue or send them to an AH.

I would 100% try the BST here? lots of good people. it might take more time and effort but thats part of the fun? unless you are just looking to unload them for cash then definitely an auction house

BST is always a good option and it's free. T205s are pretty easy to sell...I have sold many on the forum.

and a card...(not for sale)

Consign the whole thing to an AH, just makes it easier.

Don't tell anyone, but I've sold off most of my T205's. Number grades do well, but "A" cards can't sell for grading fees. I have a hundred cards that might be a 3 or an A. I hate to send them in. Also, rare backs have almost no premium, unless you have Drum or Hindu, and even then, no real market.
