I am new to the hobby and have read some posts critical of PRO cards. Why should I be wary of PRO graded cards? Thank you. Powell

Do not buy PRO graded cards. They have often graded trimmed or otherwise altered cards. PSA, SGC and GAI are all reputable if imperfect graders. There are probably like 100 (more?) graders out there, and nearly all are useless at best.

I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen a PRO graded card that was UNTRIMMED.

Every PRO card I have seen is way short of the standard dimensions.

STAY AWAY.

I have purchased only 1 PRO graded card. It was a 57 Clemente that was graded an 8.5. The card had rough cut on all 4 edges. Took the shot and sent it to PSA and it came back accurately graded as an 8.

This is not at all an endorsement to buy PRO graded cards as this was a once in a lifetime experience. As a result of my actions there are no longer any unaltered cards in their holders.

Greg

I didn't give you your proper "atta boy" for removing the one statistical outlier that would have ruined by theory.

I have only bought 1 Pro graded card. It was a T-206 of Hal Chase that was graded a 6. I sent it to SGC and it came back a 50/4. That was my first and last buy of a pro graded card.

I purchased an N28 Jack Dempsey graded 7.0 near mint by PRO. The card was plainly trimmed on at least one side and had marks on it from being in a black "corner" type album page. I have seen several other cards in PRO high grade holders that also were trimmed. In my opinion, if you buy anything from PRO, you are taking a big risk.
