1927 yorks & 1928 tharps, yuelings , harrintons ect

Ive noticed that the 1927 york caramels, The w502, The tharps ice cream, The yuelings sets & the Harringtons ice cream are all identical sets all from 1928 except the yorks, None of these cards haVE BLANK BACK, i RECENTLY SENT ONE TO BE GRADED WITH A BLANK BACK & IT WAS RETURNED a GRADE 7 AS A 1927 YORK, my QUESTION IS HOW DID THE GRADING COMPANY DETERMINE IS WAS A YORK, IF THERE WAS A BLANK BACK??
