WG1 Base Ball Playing Cards
Posted By: Hal
Hello everyone. I have been a "lurker" for about 2 years, but have never posted before. I have been interested in vintage baseball cards for about 18 years. I finally decided to post because I met another board member this past weekend at a local show, and got to see a Kalamazoo Bat and some other rare cards, and I find this board to be a valuable information source. I also ran into the following that someone posted on a similar message board while looking for other vintage card sites and thought other members might be interested (if it is true): |

I agree Hal, I sure would like to see the rules for how this game is played. Have you requested a copy, or do you plan to? |

A complete deck of WG1's is just...awesome. They are great looking cards, and the player's faces are NOT generic (bodies are though, one pose per position). Here's my lone example: |

I don't plan to request a copy. I found the thread by accident and thought it was fascinating since the rules are not known to exist. There did not seem to be any way to request a copy, and since they're so old and rare, they should probably only be copied by someone with experience in copying vintage material without causing damage. I'm hoping a copy of the rules will appear in a future auction. Awesome card, Ben. Thanks! |

WG1 Base Ball Playing Cards

Thanks! I've been here awhile, but I've been nervous about posting because there's another Hal on the board and I was afraid people might think I'm pretending to be him. I posted once before, in an old thread on the BF2 pennants, regarding a question I've had for awhile. The 1986 book "Classic Baseball Cards" pictures an ad for the BF2 pennants on one of the section intro pages (I believe it's near the lower right corner of an odd-numbered page but I'm not sure). The ad also mentions a card set, but the portion of the ad showing the card and the name of the producer is not visible. However, the brand name "Peerless Bread" is shown. Peerless Bread is one of the brands advertised on one of the backs in the D304 General Baking set, which leads me to believe that not only were the pennants made by General Baking (possibly in addition to Ferguson), but that they were marketed together with the D304, which is likely the card set referred to in the ad. A search of this board turned up at least one other old post regarding this ad. Unfortunately, the thread I posted in had ended, so I got no responses at the time, but I have always wondered about this. What do you think? |

Would it be better if I posted as Hal2000 or something similar, instead of Hal? |

Hal, I think posting just as you have is fine. We can decipher between you and the other Hal by your different logins. |

Yeah, the other Hal always wears his alligator head mask when he posts, I think. You'll be fine, as is. |
