Default 1911 Zeenut Harkness question and request...

Posted By: Shawn Chambers

Hey guys,

I've always admired the Zeenut cards epecially the 1911s...

...but, I am also trying hard to stay focused on certain other things first (yeah, aren't we all).

At any rate, a Harkness just ended on eBay for $117. I bid, but did not win as it sold for lots more than I expected (but I am a total ignoramus about this set).

I was really enamored by the design of this card and have decided if I can ever own one Zeenut, it will be this one. Admittedly, the horizontal Halla is truly amazing as well, but, too often, I have to vote with my wallet and campaign funds are limited!

Now my questions...

1) Are there any other Zeenuts with an unusual cropping like the Harkness where the player is not shown feet to head? I've seen many Zeenuts on this board and usually it seems to be a full figure shot. I think that is one of the reasons the Harkness is so great. If there are more cards in the series cropped like the Harkness, I would love to see scans.

2) How often have you guys seen a Harkness for sale? Is it hard to acquire?

3) Pricing info on Harkness is practically nil on vcp, so any idea what to expect to have to pay for one in general? Doesn't have to be as sharp as the one on eBay, but still would like to get an idea if that was a good price.

I know we have several Zeenut experts on the board, so know in advance that I am truly appreciative of any insights...

Thanks,

Shawn

The Harkness was on the winner's very short wantlist. In light of that price was right though it did appear a little trimmed at the bottom.

The only other card in 1911 Zeenut as you describe that I can think of is Patterson (Oakland) though Tennant may qualify as he is missing his right foot.

Steve,

Thanks for sharing the scans! The Patterson and Tennant are both pretty cool, too. Do you know if there are any unusual croppings in some of the later year Zeenuts?

I think most of the early zeenut sets, 1911-1914, may have some anomolies in cropping. Later years are all full pose issues.

One of my favorites is the 1913 Mundorf that, unfortuantely, I just sold last week. I just love the no hands no left foot pose.
