Although I am a vintage card collector, I do buy new cards to collect with
my 7 year old son. Tonight I was trying to explain the Wagner card to him.
I told him how rare the card is, and the money it brings when it sells.
He then asked me if it was a "jersey" card. I thought it was funny.

thanks for sharing...the explanations to our kids are fun, aren't they?
I am waiting for my older son to start asking more in depth questions about Barry Bonds...When we saw him at Wrigley last year, he asked me, "Dad, how does he hit so many homeruns?"
I answered, "Well, nobody really knows."

Regarding the Wagner card, though...his future follow-up question, which I personally can't answer, will probably be something like, "Dad, why is that Wagner one worth so much when there are 50 of them, but my 1/1 jersey card of Lance Berkman is only worth $50?"
good luck with that one!

My 8 year old nephew confided in me last December that he had written to Santa Claus asking for a T206 Wagner for Christmas. I tried to explain to him that Santa would have to sell his house in order to afford one. I think my sister is really starting to resent me introducing him to card collecting.

Coincidentally, I found a Wagner "jersey" card in my attic last night. It turns out that my grandfather, a native of Hoboken, smoked Sweet Caporal cigarettes as a young man and . . .
