Default Need R318 (Batter-Up) Scan of Card #98

Posted By: ChiSoxFan

Does anyone have a large scan of card #98 from the Batter-Up set?

Trying to figure out which player is listed as a White Sox. The scan on www.oldcardboard.com is too small to tell.

Thanks,
ChiSoxFan

Looking for T206 Sweet Caporal Fact. #30 White Sox in Poor to Fair condition.

I imagine you knew this and that's what prompted your question:

The VCP checklist says the card depicts Billy Webb/Wallace Moses.

I don't see 1935 stats for a Billy Webb and 1935 was the first year Moses played (for PHL). There is a William Webb who played in 1933 for the Chi-Sox...

Checkout the R318 Gallery at CardPricer.com. I believe it shows Wally Moses as being on the White Sox on that card.

Webb is listed as a coach on the '35 White Sox. I figure most the high-numbered Batter-Ups feature photos taken in '35 based on the uniforms depicted. Also, here's an entry I found at www.BaseballLibrary.com ...

"The White Sox teams under Dykes at the 1930s were always competitive, always finishing slightly below or slightly above .500. But Comiskey's death, along with the passing of Billy Webb (who had built the White Sox minor-league system) hurt the team's development ..."

Good call Chris - the White Sox website shows he coached in '35 and then '37-'39:
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/history/coaches.jsp

He is not William Webb who played for the Sox in '33, but rather this Bill Webb who played part of one season with Pittsburgh in 1917.
