For protection, I have always put mine in top-loaders, piled neatly in a closed box. The ones I want displayed, I matt and frame - they look really great that way, although I realize it's kind of out-of-fashion

Gary,
I have no idea. This the first time I have seen an SGC slabbed photo. it's smaller, so it probably sits in an Exhibit card size holder. I've always liked the black surround of the SGC holder as a contrast for cards and even this picture.

Scott,
I agree with you about slabbing. I don't care for it, and wouldn't spend my own money to do it. I bought the picture this way. I'm tempted to crack it out, but I do kinda like the way this one looks in it.

Mark, I'm not judging anyone - that one actually looks good in the slab. If it's a small photo, and/or you have no intention of hanging it on the wall, it might work out well in a slab - also, you can sit it on one of those small stand-up easel-type things for a nice display.

I also agree with the SGC black background slab for providing contrast, and also uniformity for display of your favorite pieces that are not from the same set. Though generally against slabbing, I do understand the benefits and I sometimes take advantage of them.

Got this ball at an estate sale yesterday...it's a 1948 team signed Lincoln Athletics ball with Nellie Fox signature. This ball has been at the top of my wantlist for a long time.

Thanks Clint...they showed a picture of the ball on their website...I was anxious about it all week, because it was a tag sale that hands out numbers in the morning and only the first 30 people will get in right away. I showed up at 6:30 AM to get in line and was already the 13th person back. Of course they hand out multiple numbers to people so when I got my ticket I was number 23. Came back close to opening time and was lucky enough to get to the baseball before anyone else.
