Perhaps it will continue through next year's National.

I wish they would post a current status update. There has been no updates/info for 2+ months now. When there's a total black hole of information, that's concerning.
I haven't asked for a refund yet, but if they'd give an update (even if it's the same info) every 2 weeks or so, it would go a long way to alleviate concerns. MEB Boy |

or National '18? At some point in our lifetime, this set-break will fill up.
Wasn't the slot price based on the value of the set last year? How can you have a continious 12 month set break with a fixed slot value and a changing set value. I can assure you that if the set goes up in value, you will not be having a set-break at those old slot values. JC is getting a free look at your money. |

Mr. Alpaugh seems not to have posted on this board since early September.

I don't see the attraction to these set breaks; though I did take a chance on the Kreindler painting lotto thing because I really admire his work and would have had a hell of a Joe Louis piece if I'd won. Regardless of the legal technicalities, it is definitely gambling and I don't really like it as part of the hobby.
Is a 1/407 chance at the Mantle worth a $350 fee? Not to me and not to most anyone else, apparently. The way I look at it (which is probably 100% wrong from a statistical analysis but WTF do I know) is that 1/407 = .2457% chance of winning the Mantle. .2457% = 0.002457 x $23,000 = $56.11. That's what I'd pay for the chance. Since there are some other good cards too, I might kick it up to $100 or so in case I get one of the great high # HOFers instead. But $350 doesn't feel realistic.

I got a refund a few months back. Lesson learned. I knew it wasn't a good deal but thought it might interject a little fun into the National. I realized this was completely pha-cack-tah (sp?) when I went to their table at the National and it was only a woman there who couldn't tell me fast enough she didn't have any information on the break. Zero. "I really don't know a whole lot about it" were her words. Interesting business model. Perhaps they just dragged someone off the nearest slot machine and gave them a job for the day. Guessing their $10,000 high end memorabilia break didn't fill either but just a guess.

VintageBreaks.com was formed by co-owners Leighton Sheldon (owner of Just Collect, Inc.) and David Gelfman (owner of Ripping Wax, Inc.) to provide a platform for the offering and live breaking of vintage wax packs, boxes, sets and graded cards. We rolled out VintageBreaks.com at the 2016 National in Atlantic City, including by offering the 1952 Topps Baseball PSA Complete Set Break for $359.99 per entry and a chance to get a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle in a PSA 3.
We hoped to break the 1952 Topps Set live on the Breaking Pavilion Main Stage at the National, but, unfortunately, we did not sell enough entries to do so. During the National, we offered and sold out several great vintage pack breaks which took place live on the main stage (including a 1962 Topps Football wax pack that yielded a beautiful Mike Ditka rookie card), and several box breaks (including a complete 1984 Topps Football Wax Box). Although the live break of the 1952 Topps Set break did not happen, there was continued interest after the National, and VintageBreaks.com anticipated that it would soon sell-out. We intended to broadcast the break live on Vintagebreaks.com. However, several participants understandably were not willing to wait and requested refunds. Everyone who requested a refund was sent a full refund, including several N54 members – as their posts have attested. All entry monies that were not requested for a refund have been kept in a separate, designated account. At this point, VintageBreaks.com has decided to cancel the 1952 Set Break. We will be providing details and full refunds to all remaining participants next week. We apologize for any confusion and the inability to sell-out the break and realize that this may have been too aggressive of an undertaking during the early roll-out of the VintageBreaks concept. We intend to reintroduce VintageBreaks.com with a new approach and various breaks at different price points on January 1, 2017. We will also be running a free break (to be determined) in January for all those that entered in to the 1952 Topps Set Break as a way to say thanks for your patience! We have learned a lot rolling out VintageBreaks.com and have made a few mistakes along the way. With your feedback, we believe we will be better able to position VintageBreaks.com as a fun, reliable, and trustworthy site for collectors to participate in live vintage pack, box, and set breaks. Should anyone require any further clarification or have any questions, please email me directly (Leighton@justcollect.com) or call me in the office at 732-828-2261. Thank you for your time, your consideration and your patronage. Happy Thanksgiving! Regards, Leighton www.justcollect.com |

Maybe even more than 120k on 140k 'value' actually to be worth it when you asking fo $350. if he was asking 50-100 bucks a slot, you would need more people but a bigger margin would be fine as it would take more work to get more people and more people would be ok with worse odds on their money but only paying 50 bucks etc
