The green Cobb PSA 2 that went for 5400. I am willing to bet someone thinks they can get the tape residue off the back and turn the card into a 4 to make a few thousand dollars on the card.
Keep those eyes peeled. Last edited by PhillipAbbott79; 05-02-2017 at 07:54 AM. |

Pete that 51 Mantle has almost perfect color, registration, and centering. Almost unheard of in any grade for that card. The corners look like a 6 or 7. Some light staining which is probably less noticeable in hand appears to be all that down grades. Certainly looks high end to me.
The kind of card that appeals to collectors such as myself, including a few board members here, as well as someone who might be thinking they can clean it up and get a bump.

A minor print defect also common on that card. I can live with that, especially when compared to the print lines that run top to bottom through the whole card.

I thought the Psa 4 Bowman Mantle had a decent amount of staining too.
Still a nice card and wish I could afford one graded that high but if I could I would have passed on that one. |

In any case, buy what you like, but I don't think this "centered Mantle" fetish is going to last. Not to the tune of 3x what one would pay for a nice card of equivalent grade just a little worse centered.

Yea maybe not quite perfect on the registration Peter but close. I did not buy this card but still think it's very high end for the grade. I figured it would go high for a 4 when I saw it. Apparently at least a couple of other people agreed, which is all it takes to break a VCP record.

No question it's a strong 4, I just wouldn't pay a 3x premium for it unless my motive was to doctor it and bump it (and not disclose it of course).

Incredible CJ 14 prices for PSA 6 and 7 commons and a few HOFers--blasting all previous records out of the water. Might just be 3 guys competing but wow. Some tripling previous top values.
