Wow. This set is even uglier than I remembered! What a truly putrid offering by Topps. Right up there with 1981 and 1979.

This one is my favorite 1978 card just because it reminds me of both the 1982 Topps Seaver All-Star card and a specific Christy Mathewson photo - a copy of which I have been searching for a number of years.
Does anyone remember the picture I mean? There as several of Christy in his 'warm-up coat' - but the one I'm looking for is like these two in that it appears to be a cold windy day causing a kind of worn expression on his face. 1978 Moskau.jpg 1982 Seaver.jpg

Look at the printing quality of the '60s cards and compare it with these. It's almost like Topps was doing laser printing in the '60s and decided to revert back to dot-matrix for the late '70s.
