Very nice!

Curious, did you/have you ever heard back from RMY about your Gibson photo?
If not, I hope you do soon or eventually as I am sure you are hanging in limbo. I know I would be.

Good luck.

That is really cool Bob. Any idea of the year it was made or if there was a particular reason it was made?

From an auction description:
Connie Mack just loved the elephant logo of his Philadelphia Athletics, as can be seen by this cast iron white elephant made to commemorate the 1911 World Series win by the A's and given away to guests at a celebratory dinner held later that year. The elephant is approximately 3" tall and is standing on a black cast iron base that measures approximately 1" tall and depicts a small baseball diamond on the top. There is engraved writing on all four sides of the base. The front reads, "Athletics, Champions of the World 1911" while the back says, "Dinner, Hotel Astor, New York, December 12, 1911". One side of the base says, "American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia" while the other says, "Baseball Writers Association of America".

The trunk and the tusks are very prone to breaking as well as the white paint chipping

Thank you all!

Not sure why uploading the scans isn't working, but I won the "October 1945 Kansas City Royals vs. Kent Parker's All-Stars Official Program w/Jackie Robinson & Satchel Paige" from the Love of the Game Auction.

Items from Jackie's time in the Negro Leagues are few and far in between. It's not clear whether he played in this game (his name is crossed out and the listing makes the assumption that he didn't, though they couldn't find a box score) but still having his name printed on a program from when he was in the Negro Leagues, along with Satchell Paige pitching for his team and Bob Feller on the other side, makes it an interesting piece in my book.

Default March Pick-Ups

Picked up these 3 display pieces recently: Kansas State Mascot Bank, Chicago Blackhawks Gold Base Nodder, and green 1880's Majolica Pitcher with baseball scene. I was able to get the Majolica pitcher for a song because of the chip on the rim. As I understand it, this Majolica series was the first example of a baseball scene on a piece of pottery. I know the green is fairly common, but still nice to find at a bargain.

Congrats. I think it a special piece for all the reasons you stated.

I always liked "The Gibson Mitt". I lucked into this Rawlings Gibson mitt with the snap button heel before it became the "Professional Model". Only one I have seen like this.

Nice glove Mike. Good to know there is another one out there. Which years featured the buckled heel?

That's a good question. The Gibson mitt design was patented in 1913 and the snap button heel in 1912. There is an illustration in a 1913 catalog of the original Gibson mitt like yours with no snap heel. Unfortunately I haven't found Rawlings catalog images from 1914 to 1923 on the website:
www.baseballglovecollector.com. Joe Phillips new Rawlings Catalog Source Book lists the original Gibson mitt along side the snap heel Professional model in a 1922 catalog. I would speculate that the Gibson mitt with snap button heel was introduced between 1914 and 1921. I hope to find a catalog illustration some day.

Default Original Cincinnati Reds 1940 World Champion team photo

I just picked up this original team photo of the 1940 World Series Champion Cincinnati Reds featuring Vandy and Ernie Lombardi.

Neat photo, great price on eBay!
