Default Orioles PM10 Stadium Pins

Here are a few more pins. These are known as PM10 stadium pins. There are quite a few different player pins out there, but for some reason not a lot of Orioles. Players from the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees are popular and seem to be more plentiful. They often came with ribbons or other stuff attached to them.

I have the two easiest Orioles, which doesn't suggest that they are common.

I know that there are a few other Orioles out there, but they never show up. A fellow O's collector, Wayne Johnson, has some. I'm fairly sure he has a Jerry Walker and at least one other I can't remember. Please post any other Orioles that you have.....

Here is the Orioles Holy Grail of PM10 pins (Not mine)... It's currently available on eBay for around $5K. I would love to have it, but also enjoy being married.

Nice looking pins.....Is their a reason why the Brooks is so scarce? Is it simply due to his popularity or is it for another reason?

Bill,

That's a great question for the pin experts. Certainly the prices today for a Brooks Robinson pin are due to his popularity and the scarceness of his pins. It's not just Brooks though. The Orioles pins in general are hard to find. I actually see more Brooks pins surface than say Jerry Walker. I'm sure the popularity of the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees in the 1950's contributed to many more of those players being available today.

Those are some very nice PM10 pins that you have. You're absolutely correc that these pins are few and far between.

The 1959 PM10 pin of Brooks is definitely scarce and have only seen a couple since I've been collecting. There was one in REA a few years ago and went for 4K if I'm not mistaken. I've also seen another PM10 pin with his B&W rookie photo on the pin as well. I remember, quite a number of years ago, it was in an auction and i bid to $1500, which I didn't think I'd ever do, but still came up short. I can't really remember what it ultimately went for, but it was more than my bid that's for sure.

Day 157 (June 5, 2020 – 157)

Think I noted it before, but I’ll pick up pretty much any book with Brooks on the cover OR back cover. Here’s a couple hard back books with Brooks pictured.

Mark,

I found this today. I'm not sure if it's been posted already, but nice picture of Brooks on the cover. It looks like it might have been part of a series of books.

Bill,

Sad to hear. It seems you are posting these notices way too often.

Just a short rant, but I absolutely hate when PSA/DNA put their stickers on the front of photos. Is there any reason the sticker can't be put on the back and not ruin the original photo.

Yes, this was the first book in a subscription type baseball history book series from the late 1980's which were really done well (I believe there were about 12 books in total).

If you ever see this particular book in a thrift or used book store, check out the title page because a lot of them were signed by Brooks (as an incentive to subscribe) & donated unknowingly.

I don’t think we’ve seen it yet. Nice book and even better photo used for the cover. I think there’s a painting, I think by Perez, or this image.

Default Orioles Drawings

I'm by no means an art expert, but over the years I've picked up a few drawings that caught my eye and were affordable. I believe the Brooks Robinson is done with colored pencil. Just thought the Scott Erickson was cool. I have a few others I'll post later on.

Day 158 (June 6, 2020 – 158)

To celebrate Al Kaline’s thirtieth year association with the Detroit Tigers Homeplate Sports Cards issued a 72-card set called the Al Kaline Story. Below are a couple cards that picture Brooks within the Al Kaline set.

Bill,

That must be the Frank Robinson helmet you have in your collection pictured in the 1974 All Star card…

Good morning Mark,

I married into a Detroit family and Kaline was my father-in-law's hero. The two of us had a chance to meet him at the 2014 National in Cleveland. Also, as Kaline was a Baltimore native, my grandfather played American Legion ball with him. My grandmother insists there is still a photo of that team buried somewhere within her house. I keep offering to help her find it, given its historical value, but still no luck to this day. Thank you for posting the photo of Brooks and Kaline.

This pennant has been featured in another thread on Net54:

https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=283392

The seller cut up two complete sheets and sold them on Ebay. I purchased one Orioles and one Tigers pennant.

I'm reaching out to all the collectors I know who specialize in oddball items (many of them not on Net54) to see if anyone has anymore information on their origins.

Mark:

Very cool items; I love the dual signed card & photo of Kaline & Brooks.

The helmet Mark mentioned isn't an Oriole item per se, but it's Frank Robinson's 1974 GU batting helmet from the California Angels (which I believe I posted on Net54 when Frank passed).

It originated from a clubhouse kid in Anaheim who got the helmet after Frank was traded to Cleveland in September of '74 and even wrote the date on the interior label (I had him sign it at a show in 2008):

I thought I had a better picture of the pin, but i guess not; well you get the idea. On this pin his middle name is spelled incorrectly.
