That card has an interesting History. I bought it from Johnny V - a longtime member and early pioneer and collector of t206 scraps and freaks. My understanding is that many years ago, it sat in a PSA flip, numerically graded as a straight southern leaguer old mill (shock PSA would screw up). Johnny (or maybe someone else) saw it was brown, bought it for relative pennies and then had SGC grade it properly.

Ryan, speaking of flips, did you or Memory Lane consider having your collection reslabbed to note the pedigree, i.e. "The Hotchkiss Collection." I would think that likely would have added to the bottom line.

None taken, and I totally agree!

However, regarding reslabbing, at one point we did discuss having PSA re-slab my T206 set that was broken up in the last ML auction, since it was a retiring PSA registry set and one of only two registered, complete 524 sets ever. But we didnt do anything.

I think that's the Brown Old Mill Smith that Jerry won on eBay for $51.50 back in 2013

To answer some of the questions people had:

I first noticed the card shortly after it was listed and was keeping an eye on it to look for any unusual bidding. This would be a clear indication that others had also spotted the card. I actually started to second guess myself because no one else bid up the card, but since the winning bid was so low it really didn�t matter at that point if I was wrong.

I still have no clue how others didn't spot this card. There are some extremely knowledgeable collectors that I know look for items such as this on eBay. How everyone else missed this card is still mind blowing to me.

A few people have inquired about whether the card was for sale and my answer was no. At this point I want to keep it in my collection.

Regarding the Rose Co Graham- a different one went on BST and it sold lightening fast. I missed out by a hair. But the owner had 2!! True story, I think there are only two and he had them both. I begged him to sell me his other one and after some thought, he staked his asking price and I said ok. I was lucky to get it. Honestly, it was a very hard item to consign; it�s one of the 7-10 items I kind of second guess consigning bc I will never be able to get another.

Great story Ryan, definitely a Sophie's Choice card.
Very few times I wish I was a Trust Fund baby, this is one of them.

Never say never in this hobby. I have reacquired several pieces I sold before. And with about 95% of them, I paid more the 2nd time. But I still got them back.

The Graham postcard story reminds me of a similar situation on Ebay a couple of years ago, albeit at a lower lower level of scarcity. A seller suddenly offered four D310 Pacific Coast Biscuit Buck Weaver cards (and if I remember correctly no other D310 cards), which are fairly scarce, and kind of raised a red flag, but were obviously legit once I saw them. I had stopped following Ebay at the time, but a great N54'er alerted me and I was able to snag the lowest condition (as is my natural collector reflex) because who knows when I would be able to obtain one at such a reasonable price. Just goes to show, you never know when an opportunity will arise to get something tough you really desire, so keep the collecting flame burning Ryan.

And my Buck gives eternal thanks to Ed for helping Buck find his forever home.
