Thought I would make a nice, clean post containing all the Jackie Robinson Bond Bread newspaper ads I could find in chronological order and listing the newspapers I could find them in.
These ads do not appear to have run continuously throughout the year, only appearing in the month listed. Only the very first ad mentions a card. This was on display at the Jackie Robinson Museum in NYC:
I think it is safe to say that General Baking rolled out the first cards in mid-season 1947. I would also hazard a guess that many old-timers who in effect said "I never saw them in 1947" probably did not if they were white kids.

William, thank you ever so much for taking the time and trouble to load up those magnificent Jackie Robinson advertisements. They are so fascinating!
Also, I am a big believer in your hobby collection acquiring strategy: "If you want a deal, you might not get a card. If you want a card, you might not get a deal." I've collected off and on since 1961. As I reflect on the best cards I have ever owned, almost every time I paid the asking price, then as time marched on, the value went up substantially, if not skyrocketed. Now, the only major factor I must stress is I NEVER bought the card / item because I thought it would later zoom in value. I bought it because I loved how it looked to me; it really caught my eye. I must also admit my major time period of collecting the nicer stuff was when it was much, much, much (times 10 to the 3rd power) less expensive than it is today. The strategy is still relevant, but I cannot afford the nicer stuff today, I must say. ![]() Again, thanks for posting the Jackie Robinson ads, friend. --- Brian Powell |

Youre welcome, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for sharing some of your collecting journey. There were also a few instances of articles (certainly, but not explicitly, sponsored) reporting of Jackies love for Bond Bread. Breaking news, lol. ![]()

Anyone know if such ads also existed for Jackie's Old Gold partnership around this same time?

From A to Z: Talks about Jackie initially turning down an offer from a Brooklyn Bakery in May 1947. He would later go on to sign with the bakery that same month with the portrait card being distributed to store owners as a giveaway in July.

Didja Know:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/162I...ew?usp=sharing "Jackie Robinson has had 2,000,000 photographs printed in the NYC area distributed by the Bond Bread people in the past fortnight... that the ex-UCLA great can have a reasonable facsimile of the key to all cities from Montreal down to the lair of the "Gashouse Gang (St. Loo Cardinals)" - dated Oct 4, 1947 The first cards were distributed in July 1947, and ramped up significantly in September.

And finally, my set. I did have the Portrait, Glove in Air card in PSA 5 (highest graded at the time), as well as Fielding Ball in Glove in PSA 5, but sold both to a well-known collector (who eventually sold me the PSA 7 portrait after he acquired the PSA 8.5). The Portrait was the last card I obtained. The most difficult card to find when completing the set was the Throwing variation. I initially had purchased the card raw (graded authentic), and later upgraded to the 3.
