My final answer but reserve the right to change my mind as a few are hard to tell the difference between as noted before: This is a photo of players that were on the White Sox team for the world tour while on a ship (know this because they are wearing the same close and all the same people are in the other group photo that is on the deck of a boat for sale one ebay) Back row, standing L-R: Dick Egan, Tom Daly, Louis Steve Evans, Jack Bliss Bottom Row, sitting/kneeling L-R: Tris Speaker (holding girl), Walt Leverenz, Buck Weaver Weaver and Speaker are unquestionable and the rest seem to be very likely IDs. All players are wearing similar shirts, man with a tie at the bottom right and man in a suit I would label as non-players. There were many other people who traveled with this tour (including families) and possible they are two of those men or could just be people on the ship with them at the same time. Here is a picture of everyone involved with the tour. I dont know if anyone has IDed everyone here or if that info is available anywhere...but we can see I think all the ball players in it that are in this photo...gives you an idea of how large this group touring was |

There are two personal log books from people on this trip in Robert Edwards Auction archives. Both include many signatures. If Ty Cobb was on it it would be reflected in one if not both of those...he is not in either one and I found no evidence suggesting he went on this trip at all. He would be present in the two big photographs of everyone who went on the trip and he is not in either of those. It is not Ty Cobb. Several other baseball related people did go on it including executive Thomas Lynch, former players Joe Farrell and Fred Pfeffer, writers such as Comiskey's future Biographer GW Axelson. Your best bet is look at the big photo I posted and see if you can match the man in the suit to someone in it...I saw maybe one guy it could be but not real sure...then you would know if it was someone with the party or just a passenger. Also the ship is probably the RMS Express of Japan I will note one player was on the tour but doesnt appear in a lot of modern things written about the teams, Andrew Andy Slight, I was only able to find one photo of him and I dont think he is in this picture of yours but not sure. |

Oct 18, 1913 Atlanta Constitution article detailing Ty Cobb's winter plans...he did not go on the world tour and thus cant be him in the photo It looks a little like John Tener president of the NL who did go on the trip but the man in the photo is much shorter than Tener so dont think it is him either, but thats the closest Ive come to who it looks like that was on the trip... |

Jolly- Yes I understand THAT post was...however this comment "... interesting that was my first thought when I saw the photo, Ty Cobb." by the OP suggested that they might have legit thought it could be Cobb and that is why I posted that. The OP asked for help and made a comment they thought it could be Cobb that didnt appear to be a joke...that's who I am trying to help...if you notice I didnt respond to your joke post only mentioned Cobb after the OP's comment on Cobb. Trying to be productive and helping instead of counterproductive Last edited by ThomasL; 07-18-2025 at 01:47 PM. |
