Richie- I live about a 15-20 minute walk from the proposed arena. People attending the games very well may be driving down my block looking for free parking. Who needs it.

The Nets are pretty bad.If they would ever allow a pro sports team to represent Las Vegas,I'm sure our Mayor-Oscar Goodman-would LOVE to have the Nets move here

Clayton- they're all yours.
Our neighborhood of downtown Brooklyn is up in arms about the construction of the new arena. This area is already way too congested and overbuilt, and we don't need 15,000 people coming into town on game nights. And this has nothing to do with how bad the ballclub is. |

There is a possibility the Nets and Islanders could end up in a proposed arena across from Citifield in Flushing, re-uniting two teams that used to share Nassau Coliseum. Islanders are more likely if this arena/convention center gets the OK to replace the "Iron Triangle" but Nets would be wooed. Subway is right there as is LI Rail Road and plenty of parking after Mets end their season in addition to whatever parking garages they build.

I live right down the street from Metrotech, on Clinton Street just south of Atlantic Avenue.
Bruce Ratner is public enemy #1 around these parts, and neighborhoods near the arena have been fighting him for years. They have been pretty successful but he now seems to be getting the upper hand. He knows nothing about basketball and is notoriously cheap. He jettisoned all the good players the Nets had, and left them with a shell of a team (although I am predicting they beat Charlotte tonight for their first win). Hopefully this new Russian owner, who is a billionaire and a big basketball fan, will start to sink money back into the team. Both the Knicks and the Nets have pretty much written off this season, and claim they will use the salary space to sign a superstar free agent. But I am no way convinced that LeBron James is coming to New York, and a player like Chris Bosh will transform the Knicks from a low lottery team to maybe a high lottery one. Even making the playoffs would be a stretch. It's really a mess. |
